I agree with the 300-350 a day and not driving after dark. Our headlights are terrible. And I would much rather set up camp in daylight.

I guess it really depends on if I have to be somewhere by a certain date or if I am cruising for adventure. If I have to be somewhere, I'll not drive more than 6 hours, regardless of how far that gets me. When cruising, I try to stay below 300 miles. I guess there isn't a whole lot of difference between the two! However I'm retired so I can usually take it slow, enjoy my surroundings, spend multiple days at each stop. If I have to be somewhere, then I typically Walmart or truck stop for overnight. For example I had to get to Vegas from Seattle and still had 3 overnight stops for what I what is about a 17 hour drive.

Age also has a lot to do with it. When we had the Travel Supreme in 2003 we were in our 50's where 400-500 mile days were nothing. Fast forward to current age, we look back and ask "how'd we do that"? Not even enjoyable today. We think back and wonder how much we missed running and gunning in those days.

For me Travel Duration "I have no issue driving at night" - depends on how far to our location / cities we have to go thru & day of the week.

Normally we shoot for 250 to 450 miles per day. For locations farther away, I like to leave between 2 to 8 pm "based on the cities / day of the week I would need to go thru" and park around midnight. Then take off early the next day so by 3 or 4 pm the next day I'm @ 850 to 1,000 miles.

I also use the 50 miles per hour average for planning, but normally the avg is closer to 54 to 57 & that with a stop every 2 to 3 hrs.

Back in the Day as they say when we had our coach we tired to follow a 3-3-3 rule.

300 miles - Set up by 3 PM and spend 3 days to relax.

Didn't always manage to follow strictly but we liked it as a guideline

Why not 60mph? One mile per minute.
Talk about easy math.

When I’m not towing I can pass more frequently and have more parking options for quick stops. Also important is where you are driving. In heavy traffic areas or through mountains it will be slower going than the wide open flatlands out west.

As a solo driver I routinely go 450 and once made a mistake and stupidly went 710 from MT to NV. But as others have said, going into unfamiliar places, especially campgrounds, is no fun.

My wife and I drive and swap off at 3 or so hours. Depending on where we are going and how fast we need to get there we plan on 400-450 to 700 or so. Drive from Chula Vista, CA to El Paso, TX in one day which was about 725 mi.

My wife and I have many years of coach driving experience (since 1972) and we are in good health and normal trip driving is in 400-500 miles.

I was never very good in math so for example 300 miles at 60 is um 300 minutes which is let’s see 300/60 so ..oh forget it. Now 300 miles at 50 is 2 x 3 so 6 hours.

Also to truly average 60 you have to have no fuel stops or breaks and no traffic.

I'm with you on the math.

The "60" number does come in handy though---after the last gas/pee/lunch break. If it's, say, 3pm, and the sun sets at 5, I can ask the navigator/DW to start looking for a CG no further than 120 miles out (2 hours x 60). The cruise control is usually set around 63.

The "50" number is ideal for us when starting out the day and looking over the map.

300 is the common that makes this so Funny - 5x60 = 300 as does 6x50=300

And we all have phones now (with calculators)- So math is Easy.

Math is a funny thing for some it is just like a Native language for others it is just a Foreign language.

Just do what works for you, think we will all get to the same place just at different times/methods.

JMHO,

I'm usually between 500-700 in a day. I've done as much as 1,000 but I was mentally and physically exhausted afterwards. We are younger and still work full time so getting to our destination is key to making the most of our time when on vacation. Unlike most others I actually enjoy the night driving. At night car traffic is minimal and typically Motorhomes and Truckers can play well with one another and maximize our distance. We travel 95 a lot as we are based in Southeast Virginia. I cant stand dealing with 95 during the day. I'll typically map it out with a 2 to 3 hour stop at some point between 2 and 3 in the morning. This process does make for an early bedtime for me the first night of our stay somewhere. I do however make it to the campground at or before typical check-in time.

We are thinking something in the 300-350 miles a day.
Not cool with running after dark unless were forced to.
Whats your plans look like?
Unless we are under a tight schedule to get from here to there, we try to live by the 8-6-4 rule.

Don't leave before 8 in the AM

Don't drive more than 6 hours per day

Don't arrive in camp after 4 in the PM

We are on vacation, not delivering freight on a tight schedule. And we also try to research scenic routes/stops when appropriate.
