Ha, This whole thing reminds me of a CG I was in this past summer. Quaint small Federal CG outside of Yellowstone.
Had a big rig pull in...
Problem #1 Big Rig didnt know that the CG didnt have hook ups when making Reservation
Problem #2 Big Rig did not have water in tanks... so he preceded to park in the road (the only road) in and out of CG so he could pump water from a hand pump into a bucket and then fill his water tank. That went fast... NOT
meanwhile other folks are waiting to get into CG
Problem #3 Big Rig Cant make the turn to back into his campsite because there is a common area for lack of better words in the middle and it is lined by large rocks... So Big Rig decides it's OK to move said rocks so he can back his big rig into his spot.... In the process putting large Ruts in the common area because it had just rained.and he didnt fix them..
Hmmm maybe the rocks were put there to prevent that...Personally I dont think nature managed to line that area with rocks. But what do I know...
Maybe thats why RV parks are Called RV Parks and Campgrounds are called campgrounds.. Dont know but food for thought..

Are we not part of the "general public"? Trimming trees so that RV's can have access without damage would be a good start.

By this logic I should be able to ride a motorcycle on the bicycle trail - after all, motorcycles pay way more taxes than bicycles.
I've been to many parks which only permitted tent camping. Hike in, hike out. No vehicles past the lot, no camping in the lot. Wish I was young enough and energetic enough to do that again.
I still like those parks for hiking and day trips, and it doesn't bother me one bit that there are some areas my 35-ft coach isn't allowed or can't access.
Perhaps part of the solution is for state and federal parks to have their budgets restored so they can hire the necessary staff to do the tree trimming and maintenance work that many seem to be asking for.

Well when you get passed all the ethical and moral issues, and all the property issues, and all the rules issues, if you still want to be able to do a little trimming once in a while where appropriate and proper, take a look at the Stihl Kombi-tool pole saw and extension, and the wonderful new electric power head for it. Yes it’s expensive but a lot cheaper than paint repairs. And it’s quiet (read stealthy) if that’s a concern. But of course with all the above disclaimers it wouldn’t be. Right?

I’m afraid this post has evolved from trimming a few small branch’s to provide enough clearance to prevent paint damage to anything more than a tent, to visualizing RV loggers clear cutting the parks trees. Yes, notify the parks management if there is a problem with access to your site and volunteer to trim the excess growth that should have been taken care of with routine maintenance. It would be hard to believe anyone would object to doing their job for them.

There is alot of arm chair expert advice here. I wonder how many poster's here actually go camping in a State Park?? I believe all SP's have rules against cutting branches of any kind. Please ask first and I guarantee you will be told that under no circumstance, NO TREE TRIMMING ALLOWED! That is considered defacing state property and you won't like the ending.
We have camp hosted in 28 states in the last 8 years, my advice comes with some actual experience.

Grind....
Then the camphosts and the SP park maintenance personnel need to be more fully active in making sure that all SP roads are properly trimmed, all tree limbs trimmed to least accommodate 13'6' vehicles if not 14 or 15, and all side shrubs and grass/weeds trimmed well off the road.
The reason people are taking things into their own hands is that the states and camp hosts are not doing their jobs. There is no excuse for the sad state of some state parks. You may well do your job of keeping state crews aware of what needs to be done to keep parks safe for coaches and 5th wheels, but many do not.
