I would have been right there with your DW. The guy in the video also probably thought the clearance was really 12'. Sometimes you win...sometimes you loose. When the loosers loose they loose big time in repairs.

Garmin RV760 - low clearance routing

We are "Classic" 2015 Cornerstone, with Garmin RV760 on board. DW input our height at 13'6" (actually 12'11" or 13' rd up), so that we have extra margin in RV760 settings.

We also prefer interstate routing for various reasons, YMMV :-). DW looks at paper maps & Motor Carrier Atlas to plan routes, and Next Exit to plan for fuel, rest stops for the day's drive.

This summer twice our RV760 tried to re-route us, taking an interstate exit in big cities that we did not believe were correct (no reason given on Garmin, such as accident ahead....). We continued ahead and did not exit. After Garmin 'seeing' we continued ahead...only THEN did RV760 screen change with to (?not exact, wording but similar to...) "low clearance 13'8" and asking "do you accept? Or reject?". DW said we're still good to go, & pressing "Accept" we continued straight ahead.

Next few screens Garmin shows each bridge on "map view" with clearance heights for EACH (?maybe 4-5 in a row?). Sorry, I don't recall which these cities were, but fyi ...as I recall, Garmin's individual bridge clearances were in time to take next exit if you wanted. We continued on our planned route, noting aloud..."so THAT was why Garmin tried / suggested to exit off the interstate route."

Posting for those wondering earlier post, " does RV GPS unit take unit height you input into account?". The answer as we found is yes, though we did wish Garmin gave the "why" at that time, instead of ONLY after we did NOT exit!

FWIW...DW did wonder also, what if re-paving several times could 'actual' height be less than posted?

Safe Travels to All
