Update to Fluids & Filter list Cummins 450

I just made an addition to the filter, fluids belts, etc. list for our 450 Cummins engine, Aqua Hot filter, etc. It has been a while since this was posted and there have been many additions. Even if you do not do your own maintenance, it is a good list to have with you in case your repair person needs a part from NAPA to get you on the road again. Many of the Cummins numbers can be cross referenced at NAPA. I saved my list in MS Word so I can make changes as needed. If anyone has any additions please post them.

ENGINE ISL 450 HP SER #

Oil - LF9009 Fleetguard

Air - 062891 001 PARKER RACOR Ecolite

Most excellent. Need a similar one for the ISX.

What is the preferred coolant for the Onan?

Bob, thank you. Copy and paste that list into a word processing program and make the changes for the ISX. I copied the list from "Diplomat Don" , walked around my MH and changed it to our Entegra's. Outside of filters and belts, most should be the same.

It is recommended from Cummins to use the same coolant as the engine so there is not a chance of mixing the two. Good question if Spartan did that. When I finish my taxes today, I will call Spartan and find out.

I would suggest buying a replacement belt(s) , primary fuel filter and oil filter.

You can find anybody in any town to put them on for you, but you can't always find those parts.

Rotate them when you have your maintenance done.

I carry mine in a large water proof ammo box, set in front of my genny.

I learned this the hard way, plugged fuel filter in rural NE. Ordering the part was going to take 3 days. I guess they didn't want to kick the horse any harder.

Had the filters before the MH was delivered and the serpentine belt as soon as I found out the size. I don't leave home without them. I have also changed more than one fuel filter roadside. The secondary fuel filter so far is a Cummins only filter.....that one will be hard to find.

I figured you would have them, but you'd be surprised by the number of people that don't even think about it.

I try to remind them when possible.

I also made the list in my smart phone, so I always have a copy.

Chuck,

Some changes/additions for you.

My Onan label (on generator) shows a 122-0893 Onan filter which when you get one is really a Kubota HH164-32430.

Thanks I'll add that and check mine, to make make sure I copied it correctly. I also updated the Engine as a Kabota D-1503 so if going to an auto parts store that is the engine # the filters will be listed under.

Thanks Chuck for the updated list of filters and belts. I just ordered them. Found the prices thru Amazon were the best I could find. Should have them all before I head home from FL. I should find a container to store a liter of fuel so I have it to fill the fuel filter if I have a problem on the road. Again Thanks Chuck.

Thanks for continually updating this list. Ordered my filters, including the hard to find secondary fuel filter and serpentine belt from Ryder Fleet Products when the list was first published. Fair pricing, fast 2-3 day shipping, and the filters had current date codes.

Possible Update for Engine Coolant Info

One of the side effects of my recent coolant leak adventures has been learning more about the coolant itself and I thought I would pass some info along for this thread.

My coach has the attached sticker on the overflow tank - may be the same for most or all Entegras (?).

I had advised the Cummins shop that I wanted only Final Charge to be used. Got there one day to see them topping off with Fleetguard ES Compleat OAT and went ballistic. The guys had tried to get Final Charge and couldn't so started researching and concluded that the ES Compleat OAT was compatible and used it. I kept pointing to the sticker with a different Fleetguard product shown on it while dialing Spartan.

Described the situation to the Spartan CS rep - he said since I was at a Cummins shop I should trust whatever they said.

So I asked the Cummins folks why not use the Fleetguard product listed on the sticker "Fleetguard ES Optimax" instead of the one you did. Answer: "we don't find that product even listed in our info" and gave me a big printout stack of info on Fleetguard coolant products that they had studied prior to using the Fleetguard ES Compleat OAT.

So with all that info I let my blood pressure drop back a little and drove off. Not content, however, I contacted Cummins Filtration, the group that manages the Fleetguard products with the following questions:

My new 2015 model motorcoach with a Spartan chassis and Cummins ISL 450hp engine was originally filled with Final Charge coolant. The overflow tank has a label that says to use only Final Charge, or a Zerex product, or "Fleetguard ES Optimax".

Two questions: Has ES Optimax been replaced by ES Compleat OAT? Is the ES Compleat OAT completely mix compatible with Final Charge?

Reply from a Technical Service Rep with Cummins Filtration in Nashville:

Yes, the ES Compleat OAT has taken the place of the Optimax coolant. Also, according to our cross-reference chart, I shows that the OAT is compatible with the Global Final Charge coolant. Although we dont recommend mixing coolants as it can eventually change the chemical properties in the coolant after continual contamination you can use a little in case of a top off where one or the other is unavailable. The Zerex product is listed as a DCA Hybrid Organic coolant which is not the same as the OAT therefore I would not recommend using it unless it says specifically that it is an OAT. Also, dont use the Automotive coolants like Dex-Cool because auto coolants contain a high amount of silicate and no DCA. The HD coolants are made just the opposite. If you have any questions/ concerns please let me know and Id be happy to help. Thank you and have a good day.

So bottom line - the sticker on my coolant tank is obsolete (and probably has been for quite a while). Forget finding Fleetguard ES Optimax, but Fleetguard ES Comleat OAT (The "OAT" is critical - there is another product with the same name minus "OAT") is a coolant recommended by Cummins for the newest ISL engines and it is "top off" compatible with Final Charge. Fleet guard compatibility chart attached.

Coolant Cross Reference.pdf

My system has now been changed over from Final Charge to ES Compleat OAT due to all the leaks/refills over the last two weeks.

I know that's longwinded, but maybe it will be helpful to someone along the way.
