Useful Whirlpool Dryer Info

When you might have thought you are pretty knowledgeable on these coaches and OEM...well...

Was doing the wash for DW. Pulled the dryer vent to clean, and saw some lint on the back screen. Got to feeling around the inside of the back of the tumbler inside the lint container hole...found a softball-size quantity of lint packed behind the metal. Amazed, in that DW would never even think to feel back there, even if she could reach it.

Maybe a fire hazard as well?! Check yours out.

Do you have the stacked washer and dryer or Combo?

Following up on Dave's initial Post,

I took a closer look at the area along the inside bottom of the filter area. The picture with the yellow circle identifies the area where the buildup of debris/lint etc. gathers unseen, unless you reach down with something i.e., piece of hangar to loosen it up then using a small Shop-Vac to remove the debris. The second picture shows the amount of debris I was able to remove via the hangar, (included in picture) although when I began, I had used the Shop-Vac so there was most likely more than what is shown. I do not have the small accessory wands that could be attached to the Shop-Vac hose and used for a more thorough cleaning.
I will be interested to see if the dryer operates more efficiently now that the air flow has been improved,

Thanx to Dave for the OP!

Thanks for the heads up Dave - will inspect mine. Amazing that much is back there - hopefully the outside vent is not clogged too.

Our 2016 Anthem A had an outside vent with a plastic screen which clogged easily. I took a razor knife and cut the bottom half of the screen out. While lint still built up in that area it was not nearly as bad as with the plastic screen. We used our dryer often so always had to keep an eye on it.

Alec, we also have the 44A. Were you able to remove the outside hood covering the vent outlet? Also, I don't believe we have a screen on our vent in the 2017, was this obvious from the outside?

tks - Jim

Jim,
If you lift up the flapper cover on the outside vent you will be able to see if you have a screen. I think they stopped installing them in 2017, but not sure. I did not take off the vent cover. I just used a razor knife and cut out the bottom half of the screen. Even without a screen lint can build up so it should be checked periodically (depending how often you use the dryer). Hope this helps.

Timely post.
DW discovered the same condition in our dryer vent two days ago.
After we (cleared/cleaned) checked the exterior vent.
No build up out there that could be seen or felt.
The inside vent cleaning is now going to be monthly.
Thanks Dave.

When cleaning the vent, I remove the outside vent cover and reach up and clean the hose out. You will be surprised how much lent is in there. Next time I wii take my shop vac over so I can reach all the way to the dryer.

When you remove the outside cover - is there an easy way to do it? Looks to have tabs - just don't want to break them.
Just doing some maintenance on the dryer. thanks
