Vega Touch/Rand McNally
I’m replacing my Rand McNally with a Kenwood system. I know the clock on the VegaTouch is set using the RM. I’m assuming I won’t be able to set the time on my VT after I do this. Is there any other issues I could have when I change to the Kenwood? My camera system has failed and I’m replacing that also. I’ve noticed the outside temp on the VT no longer displays. Not sure if it’s related or not.

Just out of curiosity, if the Vegatouch has access to the internet does the clock behave correctly?
Outside temp could also come from the Xite. I have a much older xite (and no Vegataouch) and it does have a sensor for the outside temp.

The clock seems to work fine with or without internet. The only time that I know of that it stops is when I lose power. According to the manual, the only way to reset it is through the RM.
When I was working with Entegra Tech support, he had me moving and unplugging wires. I plugged one back in and the outside temp came back on.
Thanks for the suggestion Rob.

Rob, I meant to add the wire I plugged back in to make it work was on the Xite box in the dash.

Ah, ok so the clock ticks when there is power, it just doesn't get updated. So when the RM was in play, after a power outage, did the VT clock automatically update? Or did you still need to do it manually? Once set, did the clock automatically adjust when you crossed a time zone?
Glad you found the temp sensor, the RM may be broadcasting that info over the RV-C also, so the VT can display it.

Now that I think about it, I’ve had all the power to the coach shut off before and the VT clock did not lose its setting. It lost it a couple weeks ago when I had a power outage at an RV park. When the power came back on, the clock was off and I reset it manually through the RM screen.

My Vegatouch will keep the clock time when Vegatouch is powered up and the Xite dash is powered off. That the normal state of my coach when parked.
If I do a 12V reboot with the dash off then the vegatouch will jump to the wrong time.
As soon as I turn the dash back on the vegatouch clock will correct itself.
My vegatouch is always connected via wifi to the coach router which is connected to the internet. Vegatouch does not get clock time from the internet connection. At least not on my 22 or 17 coach.

Good info. So the VT has a clock that will keep time, but has no battery backup (common for micro controllers). GPS from the xite is most likely the time source. A location based time source makes perfect sense for a vehicle that crosses time zones. The clock will always be correct without user intervention.

Rob,
I agree when all is working well the system of getting the time from GPS works.
I would like the option of setting the clock on the vegatouch.
On my 17 when my GPS was not working my clock was wrong on vegatouch. We just lived with it, avoided or auto generated start time based functions, etc…. Then one day I was messing around with the radio settings and found you can manually set the clock on the dash.
Now, if we do a 12v reboot while parked I know I have to briefly get GPS working to let the vegatouch get the clock set.

If the time is indeed coming from the xite in the form of an RV-C DGN (which we should know in a few weeks), then any device could be the time source. However, there should only be one device sending constant time updates or issues will ensue.
I'm pretty sure I could setup a "clock set" screen in eRVin that would let you input the time and it would send the DGN once. That would hold until the next reboot of the VT or until the GPS came back online.
For those replacing their xite, eRVin (or some alternative) could be the constant time source with time coming from it's own GPS or possibly NTP (internet).
We'll see...

In the unit under the faux wood access panel. Right hand side towards the bottom of the unit, use your fingernail to push in then it’ll pop out.
