I was told the same thing by Spartan.
Heating the DEF tank with engine coolant works fine after the engine has warmed up, but on a cold start the engine coolant cannot heat the DEF as they are both at the same temperature. I believe that is why a small quantity of DEF is heated (thawed) electrically during the start sequence.

While Spartan should know the system I still say there is no electric heater in the def tank. It is heated by engine coolant only.
The high amp draw you see when starting the engine is the grid heater for the air intake. Noel

Do you do that in the store by breaking the seal?
Seems to me the seal is there for a reason. Just looking at the seal should be enough.
But then I'm glad (I think) that we don't need it.

Not in the DEF tank, but maybe in the DEF intake to get a DEF prime going until engine coolant can do its job. Why would Spartan mislead about this?

Don't know Marc, but the DEF line is emptied every time you shutdown the engine so the fluid isn't going anywhere until the tank starts to thaw. Noel

$7.88 (Walmart DEF) divided by 2.5 gallons is $3.15/gallon.
Truck stop DEF is about $2.50-$2.65 a gallon in my experience.
Where I have been for the last month and a half, there is no truck stop anywhere nearby. No DEF pump. Even if it was $.99/gallon, it's not available here.
But there is a Walmart five minutes away.

Someone thought it would be a great idea to put the DEF fill on the PS of the coach, while most truck islands have the dispenser on the DS. I know of one station that has the DEF dispenser on the PS (probably a design screw up), they get a lot of my business.

I bought the round magnet thing online to fill my f350 at truck stops and 5 gallon fuel tank , I LABELED DEF. For some reason without the round magnet I could not fill f350 or fuel tanks from truck stop dispensers.

As crowded as some of the truck stops are, I won't mess with the time it takes to refill jugs to save 50-60 cents per jug, thanks to Walmart getting the price down. If there is no line, then I will refill my jugs. As for filling the DEF tank up, it's on the wrong side of the MH and trying to get that on the pump side is even worse.

Just picked up 4 jugs at Walmart. Ordered online with pickup in the store. In and out, about 10 minutes, including grabbing a couple other things needed.
