Warranty service

Well, I took the coach to Camping World as arranged by Joyce to have the p/s window replaced. In short version, they charged me (Entegra) 2 hours of labor at $128/hr to tell me they couldn't do it because I had used silicon caulking on the outside to seal the window. I did that after I found water getting in from outside and into the gear mechanism. That is just unconscionable.

So now I'm searching for a repectable shop in the Houston area that can handle the job. I found an outfit called Bob Jones RV Service. Any experience with them? Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Silicone sealant has a lot of drawbacks, and there are much better sealants available. Silicone eventually shrinks and loses its grip. Once a surface has been exposed to silicone, nothing will stick to it, not even more silicone. And silicone discolors and cannot be painted. So it is best to use another sealant, such as this one, which lasts longer and is paintable.

I'm not disputing anything you have said...I believe you.... Just wondering though in my adolescent years I raised tropical fish and had many fish tanks. The "new" frameless designs had just came out. They didn't have a metal frame anymore. The glass was just held together with clear silicone sealant. These tanks were the most durable I ever had. They never leaked in over 10 years of use. I believe they still use this technique in modern fish tanks?

What was different in that sealant that worked so well ?

You are right. I know that glass installers use silicone indoors and it works well. But the silicone on the outside of my last RV yellowed, shrunk, and started to pull away. Maybe it is the UV in sunlight that makes the difference.

My passenger side window also has issues its not fully seated in the opening, it is my source of noise heading down the road the low wind open window glass has separated also. I wonder if it has to do with the jig that is used to cut the hole. If they even use a jig,?? could you emphasize on what your issues were leading up to the replacement. THX

That is ridiculous, come on 260 buck should have been plenty enough to pull and reinstall a window twice. A lot of complaints about CW and this one is proof. I am sure some good locations and some well others not so good. Also as for the silicone there is more than 1 way to skin a cat, I think they maxed their profit out and decided to pass the buck. Maybe the worker as I will call him as he does not deserve to be called a technician was prolly late for lunch or his second job at taco bell or burger king

Johnny I agree with you, they figured all they were going to get out of replacing a window that they did not sell was- you guessed it- 2 hours of labor. So very deliberately they charged 2 hours of labor and did nothing. Flat out fraud.

BTW, the window needs replacing because the seal is broken and it has condensation between the panes and also the knob will not close tight so water leaks into the coach. I think I may need the frame replaced also unless it can be fixed.

We haven't needed service in the Houston area but Holiday World is just down the street from CW and PPL has always been our go-to location for parts (they ship nationally). I would think they would have a fairly good sized service department to match their extensive parts inventory.

I have personally replaced 3 of my windows @ 45 min each with no help. The stick on seal rope is the primary seal to keep water out. Silicone sealant top and sides is just backup. Entegra parts recommended using silicone. The window cut outs allow a little wiggle room and really calls for someone to "spot" the window in the opening correctly (and thump it flush) from the outside while the inside guy tightens all the frame screws. Last thing is silicone application.
My local "quality" repair shop wanted 2.5 hours per window times their ridiculous hourly rate.

Ok I know exactly what you are saying as mine is doing the same, also the bezel is also tweaked, and is not seated properly into the actual cutout that's why I mentioned the cutout jig earlier, was yours also whistling a bit while going down the road too.

Gene, I agree with you. I helped my neighbor replace his Sea Gels in his National RV and I was surprised how easy it was. With my past experience with CW, they could have made it worse than the window they took out.

I guess I'm kinda surprised that Entegra CS would use a Camping World as their choice for warrantee service, particularly fairly close to a large city.
