Glenn I get more than a year out of the DIC20 from CRS. Number of gallons depends on the incoming water based on the TDS of the incoming. Their chart indicates 400 gals would be based on 200TDS count which is a pretty poor supply source. My city water is about 50 which is good for 1500 gallons usage.

So YMMV based on incoming water supply and your amount of trigger time on the nozzle.

I've used my pressure washer (3600 psi) for years without any issues at all. I've also used the truck washes without any problem other than scratches from their brushes.

If a pressure washer did damage to a motor home I'd be concerned about driving it in the rain.

Dave, good point. It is amazing how many people will try to blast every speck of dirt off with a pressure washer instead of gently removing the heavy dirt as they are designed to do. I still hand wash, (microfiber) but I am not smearing dirt left by a 50 PSI garden hose that "just" rinses the dirt off. If a soap cannon helps loosen that dirt before rinsing....I'm in.

As posted by Pogo, some people need to leave it to professionals (they use pressure washers ) or do it the hard and harmful way, on the soft paint used by Entegra, by using a garden hose and a brush.

From the new washing a polishing tips I have learned on this forum, your soap cannon will be one of them, my coach looks 2.5 x better than when it left the factory.

If you buy the 4000 gallon system, do you still need to convert anything, or just buy the resin?

How about putting a water softener in line before the DI unit? That would extend the life of any resin system regardless of brand. It's asking a lot for a DI unit to remove all TDS when you start with very hard water.

I run mine post softener. It really helps

There was a discussion earlier about running a water softener before the CR Spotless and a rep stated that the softener will actually do more harm than good.

I don't see how. Even an RO system, which is essentially the same thing, works better post softener

Washing the Coach

An RO system most likely will not clog or degrade with softened water. It is a semi-permeable filter with a large percentage going down the drain as waste.
DI uses the resin and is spent as it absorbs the minerals. Softened water does not truly remove these minerals, it exchanges them.

Check before and after with the TDS meter and see if there is a difference.

Very little. I get tomes of washes with mine using soft water.

Good point on the RO system,

Water softeners change the water by adding sodium chloride (or another substance)to the water. It "softens" the water by displacing the calcium and magnesium (which cause hard water), with an ion that does not cause hard water. This allows soap and detergent to make better suds/foam. It does not remove any of the ions that are bad for our fishtanks (nitrate, phosphate, sulfide, etc.)

where RO passes the water through a membrane that has holes only big enough for water, but not the ions. This removes most of the ions, good and bad, from the water. Then you need to add back the good ions (sodium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, carbonate, iodide, etc = SALT).

DI takes the water that is MOSTLY free of ions (from the RO) and switches the last few ions with either H+ (hydrogen ions = acid) or OH- (hydroxide ions = base). Then the H+ and the OH- ions combine to make H2O (water). Leaving extremely pure water.

If you use a TDS (total dissolved solids) meter for your water before and after a water softener, the water will have MORE TDS after the softener. On RO water, there is usually almost zero TDS after. After just using a DI unit, there is usually almost zero TDS (a little higher than using RO water), and after using a RODI unit, there is usually zero (or 0.001) TDS reading.

What happened to Glenn's post on the new DI system? I was going to research it today and all of the reference posts are gone.
