Water Pump

Seems we have bad water pump luck...already replaced the original one early on. Went to a Aquatec that's now a Remco @ 3.5gpm it too seems to have bit the dust. Looking at a new Remco or the Shurflo 4048, but open to any suggestions???
The latest casualty was so loud before it died that we were afraid to use it when close to other RVs at night, for fear of waking neighbors even with the extra loop in to help quiet. Read enough to know that our experience isn't that unusual some bad quality parts out there(that has a familiar ring, LOL). Also, the more gpm the better...

Do you have a water strainer between the tank and the pump? I was wondering if building debris in the tank is ruining your pumps. Have you dismantled any of the dead pumps to try to see what's happening?

I switched to the 4048 just before leaving on this trip as the factory pump was getting loud and I didn't trust it. The pressure is fine, but I have to find why the LED lights flicker slightly when using the pump. I think I will need to find the post that Matt did about installing a relay.

Might want to refresh your beverage, there is a lot of info here.

Chuck, I would pay particular attention to the quality of your ground.

Thanks Matt, I have bookmarked that for happy hour. I will check the ground, it's ease to get to and check the crimps.

First Thanks Matt and Chuck et all for the link to the previous thread. You pass on reading things until you are in the same boat, then man are they hard to find! I wish the search wasn't so lame on this sight, if it weren't for you guys bookmarking this stuff it would be lost!!!~!

Just reading it I feel better, I am in the majority ha! We have filters replace them often and there is no sign of any kind of build up...tested it with filters in canisters and without, not any real difference in flow. We try to be diligent to turn off pump when on the road, yesterday when we were testing it in our shop after toilet flush was complete it stuck in a weird run mode not really pumping? Thinking that may have happened before, heading it toward burn out. Have not torn this or previous ones apart, do a lot myself but this not in my wheelhouse wish it was...

Chuck how is the noise level on the 4048?

Doug, the 4048 is about the same as the factory pump when the factory pump was new. Is is not a whisper quite pump, you can hear, but not bad.

The 4048 would be my choice. But it does draw more amperage so a relay would be the best way to install it. Much of the time noise can be minimized. There's two types of noise common to water pumps.

One is the mounting. They need to be in a location that won't resonate. Also, the rubber mounting grommets should not be too tight. They need to float a bit or else the vibration passes right through them so don't crank the screws down too tight.

The second is the banging from the water flowing through the lines, especially as it hits a hard 90 degree Pex elbow. Shurflo makes hose kits that isolate the pump and allow the water to easily flow through the hoses with a gradual bend rather than a sharp Pex elbow.

In addition to the Shurflo hoses to reduce vibration, an accumulator tank will cushion water pulses from a diaphragm pump. The accumulator also reduces water 'hammer' when a valve shuts off suddenly, like an ice maker, washing machine, or dishwasher.

All this is well and good, but the OP has a faucet that has reduced flow. I asked about filters, but I also wonder, is this faucet in a slide? It could be the line is kinked or being restriced by the slide movement

Attached is the manual for the 4048. They don't recommend an accumulator for a bypass style pump. That's more useful for fixed displacement pumps. They do state pretty clearly though that you shouldn't connect to hard plumbed pex. They also state to use a relay or controller that is at last 10 amp, preferably 15 and to use #12 wiring for any distance. If you run a good #12 hot line to the contacts on a relay and then connect the OEM wiring to the coil on the relay you should have adequate power. Note that they also recommend the larger capacity strainer so you may need to upgrade that as well. I don't recall what the original ShurFlo had for strainer size.

Oops, I was thinking of another thread, disregard the red paragraph.
