Wet Bay Light

I have had what I thought was an inoperable light in my wet bay. Turns out that the cargo lights must be on AND the wet bay light switch to be on for it to work.

I don't really understand this setup. If the wet bay is connected to the cargo light circuit, just have the wet bay light on all the time the cargo lights are on. Why give a wet bay light switch, just to have to turn on the cargo lights to make it work?

Is my coach mis-wired, or is this typical?

Thanks

Yes, that is the way the 19's are wired. I may change the wiring on mine to be constant hot with a trigger switch that the light will come on when the door is open. I did that on the 14, it worked great. http://www.irv2.com/forums/f278/ligh...ml#post3288948

Our 17 is the same; it's pretty dumb.

This is certainly one of those "what were they thinking?" The lights in the service bay under the driver's seat and the engine bay do not require the cargo light switch to be on, so how hard would it have been to include the water bay (all service bays) on that loop?

Yep, often wondered that myself. The only explanation I can think of is ????. OOPS, I can’t think of one.

I found a magnetic light I keep in the wet bay for those times I forgot to turn on the cargo lights. Works well and has been handy to have a ready access light in the bay.

That's how it's supposed to be. Here's why: If you accidentally leave a storage bay light on, it taxes the batteries. Rather than go around and check every bay when parking the RV for a while, there is a single switch that drops power to all of them. (Convenience)

For yet another perspective..

Our cargo lights have been on since we purchased the coach. I feel it is a deterrent to certain nocturnal rodents.

In leaving the cargo lights on, this would naturally energize the wet bay light. Unfortunately, this is less than desirable when servicing the wet bay in places where the flying insects are abundant.

Switch off, problem solved.

Having the wet bay light on the cargo lights circuit would be a good way to be sure the light was not left on. I buy that explanation, thanks John for clarifying that.

Matt, As for keeping the cargo bay lights on as a rodent deterrent; that is an awesome idea. Just turned mine on. We keep the slide-out light on for that reason, but a bit lame as it is only on one side of the coach.

Ours ('17 aspire) was wired like that too.

I found it stupid, so I went to Autozone and bought a pin switch and a fuseholder and 1 amp fuse.
I tapped of the macerator relay (always hot) to the fuse to the light, and put the pin switch in the doorway on the ground side.

Now, when I open the door, the light comes on.
