Did you communicate with Joyce Skinner and Spartan yourself? I was under the impression they were expediting heads for folks on the road.

What model and year? Did you respond to the survey question in another thread?
It would be good to get a handle on the facts of how many are having this problem but I see plenty of reports of this problem without a corresponding survey response.

For what it’s worth, here I am in South Bend. Made it without incident on the replacement sensor that Spartan sent me.

But apparently it just shifted the problem to our toad, which has an SES lamp on right now for a valve timing problem. Everyone is scheduling 2+ weeks out for everything, and that’s just diagnosis.

At least if worse comes to worst we have a really nice “tow truck” we can use to get it home.

I’m getting ready for a 4500 miles trip, my rv has been sitting for a very long time, except for few very short trip. I had the DEF head change in May 2020. Not sure which generation…check the def with a refractometer, it’s a little above 32.5. Two questions, having the Def head change, would that reasonably «*protect me*» from another failure and should I replace the DEF in my tank?

Yes i talked to spartan and Entegra both but got the same answer. Yep, its on backorder, let me transfer you to parts.

This was on a 2013 which is kind of strange, I thought all the DEF issues where on the newer coaches. I wonder if there was a bad batch of DEF that got out.

There is one of the problems, the DEF heads for the Classic coaches are different than the current year coaches. DEF head have been on coaches since 2010, but the new sensor type DEF heads did not go into effect until 2016. The Classic DEF heads do fail, but not as many parts to fail as the newer units, therefore less failures.

Posting the year of the coach in situations like this is a big help. I was not aware that the old style DEF heads are on a longer back order then the newer style units.

There is no protection for DEF heads, none of the Generation have been proven successful. From my experience, I lost a DEF head due to old DEF, I would not chance it if the refractometer does not read 32.5. DEF is cheap, DEF heads are not, and there are none available. Fresh DEF and enjoy the trip.
