Ken

But heat pumps have many parts prone to failure and are hard to replace parts. A friend had a heat pump failure that took three trips to the shop over nine months to resolve. First to diagnose and determine replacement required, wait six months for replacement, then after replacement find out control board needed, wait three months for part then another trip to get it installed and working.
I will take less BTU and enjoy the quieter fireplace as much as possible. When I started RVing I thought a fireplace in RV was ridiculous. Now I would never buy a Class A without it.

When we bought the RV we thought we wouldn't use it. We use it anytime we need heat.

We did not think we would use our fireplace a lot. We were wrong. We use it often in cooler weather.
The unit works well, is quiet, and has temperature setting.

As long as we are in 50 amps we have not had any issues with power draw.

I do. At first I thought it was just a gimmick, I wouldn't have ordered it if I had the choice. Now I'm really glad I have it.

Fire place heat

Added a 4x6 return duct to the side of the fireplace. Boosted heat output considerably.

The fireplace makes a difference

We set our basement heat to 72 degrees, set our fireplace to 74 degrees, and turn on all three heat pumps to stay warm on cold nights. We don’t turn our Aqua Hot furnace on unless the outdoor temperature drops below 25 degrees. This combination keeps us very comfortably warm.

We use ours in the winter, when it’s chilly. It has two setting, I never use the 1500 watt, I am of the opinion that any 1500 watt heater is pushing the envelope at high.
In the sticks and bricks, we have an oil filled radiator style portable heater, in the bathroom. I run it at 1/2 power. It is over 35 years old, and not one issue.

We use our fireplace heater all the time. It puts out a descent amount of heat and saves on having to use the propane in the central heater.

Thought the very same thing when we were shopping for a 5th wheel in 2008. Told the salesman I thought it was just eye candy and that the space could be put to better use. Changed my mind immediately when he told me it was also an electric heater.

Didn't have one on our last coach and missed it.

Although the placement of the fireplace on our Reatta does'nt really accent much of anything, we use it whenever it is chilly or cold. The placement of ours pumps heat into the back bathroom and when on makes stepping out of a shower real nice.

We use ours all winter. At 20 degrees we turn on both fire places and the floors and never use the aquahot.

As so many have already stated, we love our fireplace and regularly use it. Our last coach didn’t have one, and the hassle of rigging and stowing two small heaters each evening when needed is not missed at all in our current coach. Safe travels.
