Whom here fly fishes? Where's your favorite places to practice your skill?

Just wondering who else loves this sport? I was a bait fisherman until 1995 when my father brought me back to Yellowstone park and taught me how to fly fish. I learned on the Lamar, Soda Butte and Slough rivers.

I have been returning every year since, mostly concentrating my efforts in SW Montana on rivers such as the Madison, Beaverhead, Ruby, Missouri and most recently the Bitterroot. We will be there this summer, perhaps early enough to catch the Salmon fly run. Might trek up to the Clarks fork and Rock Creek areas.

Where do you guys go?

I don't fly fish, but for those interested, there's an RV resort in central Florida that has lessons: Grand Oaks in Weirsdale. (South of Ocala, near The Villages).

Grand Oaks is nominally a big equestrian center, but I watched the fly fishing training a few weeks ago there. A nice place to stay--has a great on-site restaurant.

Grew up in central Pennsylvania and started fly fishing when I was 11. We fished on Slate Run that fed into Pine Creek and also fished Little Pine Creek.

If you look at Waterville Pennsylvania you will see all those streams, Slate Run is about 15 miles north of Waterville.

I quit fly fishing when I moved to California, the streams are very high in the spring and extremely low the rest of the time.

I used wet and dry flies, the license cost $1.00 and was good for everything in the entire state.

That was back in the 50's and I still have all my rods and reels. Oh, and the scar in my right ear too.

Never blame someone else for the road you're on.
That's your own asphalt.

No special place but I recently acquired the gear, but have not had a chance to try my luck! I’d love to join up with others to learn the trade.

I'll be in the northwest all summer. If you find yourself anywhere near Montana, Wyoming, Idaho etc, hit me up. We should get there mid May and stay until September

Fly Fishing is one of my favorites growing up in New England and spending time in the Mountains of NH and Maine fishing the streams. I can remember when I started, the 57 Chevy was the coolest car from Detroit. I still have my original poles albeit they are just too old to use.

My favorite is Fly Fishing in the Keys for Bonefish. These buggers are extremely difficult to catch and spook easy. Heading there in a few months and bringing my gear.

If you see a fly hanging stuck in a tree branch over your head in SD, MT, WY, MN, or WI, or wrapped around a rock on the FL Gulf coast, you can bet I've been there casting.

Love it. But places that have the barbless hook rules were made for better fishermen than I.

I like Colorado for it's many wade fishable rivers and Florida Gulf Coast for saltwater fly fishing!

We fish Southwest Colorado the most. The Dolores River from Lizard Head south to Dolores and the San Miguel River along Co145 west from Telluride.

If you haven't been go to Craig MT just below the Holter Dam on the Missouri River. 6000 fish per mile. Just an awesome place.
