Why Answer if You're Not Contributing?

//rant mode on//

Why do some feel the need to say, "well I don't do that", or "that doesn't affect me"? Those making informative observations or posting mods that are beneficial to some just may not be for everyone. That's understood, but is it really necessary to say "I don't worry about that" when there are other who clearly benefit?

I have nothing to contribute here other than stirring the pot.

I suppose that's better the repeating Exactly what the last post said, adding nothing new.

Well, you could always report such posts to the moderators for a potential rule violation.

They may have to delete this entire thread.

Sometimes I repeat what the last poster said because I type slow. It happens.

If they eliminated the post count you'd get a lot less of it. I been on sites where they don't have post counts and Its way better.

I know exactly what you are talking about and I don't understand either, other than some folks feel great about post counts. Those who do this, know who they are.

I will look at various posts and try to help when I can. When I see a post that is, "what is this" and I see 15 responses, I move on because I know the question was answered. No need for me to post and say, "I agree with the posts above".

Since we are ranting, it also drives me nuts when I or someone else posts a question about something that has been asked many times before (not known by the one asking the same question) and get's the response........try the search bar. Heck, I doubt there is a question on here that hasn't already been asked. If this is the case, we should call it a directory and not a forum.

Good idea. My un-godly post counts on some forums validates that I spend way too much time on this keyboard, but I have the time and like the mental challenges.

That said, those that view their post count as some kind of validation might be the ones from the OP.

Stop the post counts for 3 months and see what happens......

The flip side is that some forums are restrictive enough that not enough posting is worth logging into the site. Not sure that it's a bad thing, except that specialized forums like Colt pistols or Porsche cars need feeding from posters, whether they know something or not.

IRV2, not so much.
