Windshield replacement

Trying to work through getting my windshield replaced with Progressive who uses Duncan Glass, Elkhart, to validate estimates. MHSRV will do the replacement and provided the estimate. They included replacing the gasket but Duncan denied it saying it wasn't necessary. Entegra disagrees. Progressive supports their sub and won't approve it no matter what Entegra or MHSRV says. I can see issues downstream! I just want to be able to get back on the road!

Seems odd glass shop replaces them automatically? Don't want any leaky come-backs? Could be that they are really conscientious.

I pointed out to them that if it leaks in the future they will have to pay for a gasket and the R&R of the windshield. They said MHSRV should warranty their work, I pointed out a business doesn't stay in business by warranting work contrary to their process. I mentioned if my first rainstorm is in Virginia and if leaks they will have to pay for water damage also!

I think by now it is a war of wills; I have pissed off several of them. It's not Progressive, it's Duncan Glass.

When my motor home windshield was replaced they did not replace the rubber gasket nor would I want them to as it is paint sealed to the front cap.

It did take them two tries to get the caulk in all the way around to stop any leaks and so far so good.

We had ours replaced last year. We were going to have Entegra do it at the factory but they insisted on replacing the gasket And Progressive would not pay for it. We ended up going with a local glass place that did it on site. A word of cause though, if you have the "Third Eye", if may not be replaced properly and will need re-calibration.

Frankly on a 3 year old coach I would not worry about it. You might run into more problems if you try to replace it. The rubber is still good and a good glass installer will seal the glass so it doesn't leak. If it were 10 years old or more it might be a different story. But after only 3 years, the rubber is still good. In years past when automobiles used a gasketed windshield, the gasket was reused all the time. It was only replaced if damaged or dry rotted.

Come to think of it, they did not replace the seal on my TS either. Once a windshield was installed correctly, it never leaked again. It only took 3 attempts to get it sealed properly. Good Sam's insurance paid for it each time. We have 100% glass coverage in FL. Last time they came all the way from Tampa and did an outstanding job on site.
