Winegard ConnectT and the Internet
Since Friday we have been trying to connect our Winegard 4G ConnectT to the internet. We have tried to connect through hot spots (Verizon and Sprint) and through the Entegra and Spartan Guest Networks without any success. It has been a couple of months since we did connect and the only thing I can think of that happened since the last time we successfully connected to the internet is that we changed our internet security software to Bitdefender.
1. Has anyone encountered any problems connecting the Winegard 4G ConnectT to either a Verizon or Sprint MiFi hot spot? The reason for asking is because Winegard Customer Service said that the ConnectT was not designed to work with a hot spot, although they said we should be able to connect using a phone.
2. Does anyone use Bitdefender and if, yes, have you encountered any problems connecting to the internet through the ConnectT? Winegard customer service said they have never heard of any interference with internet security software, but I think that is the only variable since the last time we did connect.
3. Does anyone know if we can connect the PepWave directly to the internet through either the Sprint or Verizon hot spot?
As always, many thanks for any help that you can provide. BTW, I am working with Entegra customer service, but even Mike O’Connell is stumped.
Regards,

Can't say if this helps, but we have the Winegard Connect 2.0 and in the wifi extender mode it will not pick up our Ram's wifi hotspot, even when I park the truck right next to the fifth wheel.

We have a Winegard Connect 2 and I have bit defender on my pc with no problems.
We've never tried connecting the Winegard to a hot spot, so can't help you there.

Thank you for your response. Some follow-up questions, if you don't mind.
1. What do you mean when you say "in Wi-Fi Extender mode"?
a. Does this mean there are different modes?
b. And, if there are, how do you switch modes?
c. Can you connect to the Ram's hot spot using a different mode?
2. How do you connect to the internet if you don't connect to your Ram's hot spot?
Thank you for responses.
Regards,

Thank you. Good to know that at least in your case, Bitdefender does not interfere with you using your Winegard Connect to connect to the internet. If you don't connect to a hot spot, what do you connect to?

If you have the 4G unit, it also has a mode which will enhance a wifi signal from another source and you choose between the 4G or external wifi source.
Ray, here, will explain it all.

Regarding question 3. Depending on Pepwave you can use your hotspot as a 'source' wifi or use a USB cable to tether the MiFi device to the pepwave for cellular access. Doing the tether will leave you open to add the camps wifi as an additional source.
Detailed and discussed in the link below. In that discussion I link the Pepwave manual for reference with page numbers for setup considerations etc.
Hope that is useful

Jeff

We do connect to campground WiFi hotspots, but have never tried to connect the Wineguard to a cell phone hotspot. Sorry, should have been more clear on that

The wineguard will only to connect to 2.4ghz networks. It will not connect to 5ghz networks which is probably what your jetpacks are running. My suggestion is to just unplug the wineguard. It is not worth the hassle. I use hotspots from ATT, Sprint and Google Fi and occasionally campgrounds but most of them are very slow. There are a few ways to deal with multiple cellular wifi networks. The easiest is to just connect your tv's, iPads, and whatever else to whichever cellular service has the best download and upload speeds. (This is different from bars or signal but that is another discussion). The more difficult setup would be to buy a wifi extender from someone like Netgear and use that the same way the wineguard was intended. This is a little more complicated but it saves you from switching all your devices everytime you switch between jetpacks or a campground wifi.
Hope that helps.

I do not have the WiFi extender on my 2020 Anthem, but I do have a Pepwave router. I did not see any real benefit to having the extender, since most campground networks are not worth the trouble.
For my Pepwave, to tether, you need an Android device. It will not tether an iPhone or iPad.
Therefore, I purchased a cheap ($50) Android smartphone from Visible that is connected to the Pepwave 24/7 for connectivity to the internet.
You can search Visible.com for more info, but it's $25/month (w/party pay) for truly unlimited internet
