Winegard SK-1000 Coax

Does anyone know if we can make our own short coax cable that runs from the LNB down through the arm to the base on the roof, estimated around 4-ft. Does it require a specific type of coax and connectors for this purpose? I keep getting a "No LNB Voltage" signal on my controller, and I suspect the cable. Thanks
Jim

Had the same exact issue last year. Contacted Winegard and received this response. It worked perfect. Hope this helps!

'The NO LNB VOLTAGE message is generally caused by a faulty cable that connects the vertical port C to the LNB. To determine whether that is the issue or not what we need to do is replace that cable, with a standard RG6 coax about 5-6' long. You are going to want the antenna up off the roof to do that. Power the system on like normal, once it raises up off the roof, press and hold power and select at the same time, the interface box will power off, and the antenna will stay up. Remove the LNB, replace that cable, and put the LNB back on. Power the system back up and see if the message continues.'

RG6 coax cable come in many different shapes and qualities, from absolute bottom of the bin crap, cheaply made coax cable that is not weatherproof with virtually no shielding to high quality double or triple shielded cable designed for harsh environments. Sounds like you need about 3 or 4 feet of high quality cable to make that connection, first to quickly test whether that resolves your problem and if so, then later as a permanent fix.

I would get some guidance from Winegard. They can probably suggest a good, quick source for quality cable that meets their specifications. Even cheap cable can probably be used for a few hours to see if it resolves the problem, but I'd advice to find and use some good stuff for on the antenna use.

I bought 6 feet of standard coax as recommended. Could have used only five, but that's what they make zip ties for. It's worked perfectly since last September. Six months of use, up and down every four to five days.

Thanks guys. I purchased the three cable sheathed cable assembly that connects to ports A, B, and C from Winegard for about $45. They said it's 90% probable that port C is corroded, so cleaning the port and replacing the cable assembly will fix it. You guys are great. Thanks for the comments.

You can use an off the shelf 6 foot RG59 cable. Just make sure it is not one that has the plastic covers on the connectors. However, I would suggest getting the ultra thin cable that Winegard sells if at all possible. Will make life much easier. I have looked through Amazon and Cables 2 Go and have not been able to find it on line so if you are able to find one please post here as the Winegard cable is pricey.

I had our cable fail. Got a replacement and spare from Winegard . Winegard uses a reduced diameter cable. Gave my spare to a friend when his failed on a Tiffin Bus. I’m not sure a reduced diameter cable is necessary, but the bends required are a bit tight.

Some normal diameter RG-6 can get very rigid in the winter.... particularly cheap RG-6. I am a "ham" radio operator and quite familiar with quality of coax cable, and "regular" coax is a very different beast from the coax that Winegard uses on their turrets.... IMO, any additional cost is well worth it to have the genuine Winegard.
