Wiper blade length?

My 09 Aspire has 28" blades on it now and they are to short. What is the correct length for both of them and is one shorter than the other, also where can I get the right ones? Thanks, Jim

My Magna had 32" blades. I replaced them with 28" and the are fine for me. Camping World carries longer blades at some $30 - $50 each.

I replaced my longer blades with 28" and the 28's work fine for me. These are readily available and much cheaper than the longer ones which are hard to find.

My Travel Supreme, same as your 09 took 31-32 inch. Best to shop the internet for the best price. Both sides take the same size. I currently carry 28 inches for spares.

I don't know if this information applies to the Entegra system. This has been discussed before but that's OK.

If your wiper system uses the "J" hook attaching design at the end of the metal arm you can avoid the much higher cost of RV specific blades and choose blades anywhere.

If your system does not use the "J" hook design it can be changed so that you can use the "J" hook.

First off the "J" hook standard width for car/truck blades is 9-mm wide. Before we continue there are some 32" long blades that use the 9-mm wide wiper arms so we are not going to weaken your system by changing to a 9-mm arm.

The standard wiper arm "J" hook for RV's and larger trucks is 12-mm. That's the primary reason you can't find RV wiper blades in any regular auto parts store. Look on the back of any wiper blade replacement and find the picture of the "J" hook and notice it's width. It will be either 12-mm or 9-mm.

All I did was narrow the 12-mm arm end down to 9-mm using a small sanding grinder and now i can select replacement blades from any auto parts store in just about any length.

As far as the blade length is concerned. I don't feel the need to wipe the rain from a very large area of the windshield. I use a 26" blade on the drivers side and a 24" on the passenger side. If I can't see well enough with that it's raining to hard and I'm getting off the road ASAP to wait out the storm.

I've already had to rebuild one wiper system on our 1999 Dutch Star by Newmar coach on the F-53 chassis. Neither Newmar nor Ford had any workable solutions . I redesigned the system with an adjustable center arm so I could control the wipe width, starting and stopping points.

I'm using a shorter blade to reduced the weight it has to sling back and forth and therefore the wear and tear on the wiper system. Most of them are very marginal at best.

If anybody is interested in more information send me a PM and I can send some pics.

Two years ago we had about 100 hours on the engine and about 5,000 miles and probably only 2 or 3 of those hours were in the rain using the stock wiper system. I began to notice some lagging of one blade so wear is already starting. I changed the blade length (weight) in hopes of avoiding any further major wear and tear. We'll see!!!!

Grind wiper arm ends down to 9mm

Grinding down the wiper arm ends to 9mm was the best answer for oversized wipers. I think they only test these in the parking lot. Our coach came with 30" blades 12mm x 4 mm. First, I easily went to 28" 12mm x 4mm blades, but it was not enough. I just ground down the 12mm wide to 9mm wide and it worked like a charm. I was concerned about the 3mm vs 4mm, but all the j hook blades at Autozone work both on 3mm and 4mm. I used a bench grinder and a file to smooth the edges. Work both sides and insert the new 9mm wide insert to test, grind, test, grind, test before a clean-up file and paint.

Thanks for posting, I wish I would have done this years ago!
