Update Eunice Mardi Gras band lineup

Hi Everyone,

Well……here are the two schedules released for Eunice Mardi Gras 2014. I say, “well…….” Because seems they contradict each other in scheduling times! I’m sending them along anyway because this is what is published (pictures, history….etc.). You will find one schedule attached and one schedule below near the end of this email.

I talked with the Eunice Mayor’s office. Seems that Ms. Jenny (the lady that does the research for the bands lineup) is no longer working in that office. They are quite disorganized and lost as to how to do what Ms. Jenny did all these years! Also, Joan in the Mayor’s office tells me they have lost a week of work because of the bad weather and ice. Their schedule will be much later coming out. Band are being added daily.

In this email I will provide the schedule for The Northwest Center Council (The Pavilion) and Ruby’s Dance Hall. I was on the phone most of the afternoon yesterday, in an effort to clarify the differences in the two schedules. This morning, I’ve received calls and have some of the contradictions straight. I talked to Mona at the Northwest Center Council on Aging ( referred to as The Pavilion) and Kirt who does the scheduling for Ruby’s Dance Hall. Immediately following is what I was told:

NORTHWEST CENTER COUNCIL ON AGING (The Pavilion) 501 Samuel Dr, Eunice, LA 70535 – Ph. (337) 457-6573

RUBY’S DANCE HALL 123 S. 2nd. Street in Eunice (in the building where Nick’s used to be) Ph. 337-550-7665;
This is the website when the restaurant was named Nick’s. http://nickson2nd.com/ They have a restaurant, court yard, and dance hall. They also have another restaurant named Ruby’s at 221 W Walnut Ave Eunice, LA 70535 (337) 550-7665 that is small and only open for breakfast.

· I spoke with Bonnie at Lakeview RV Park. She said their bands lineup schedule is on their website http://lvpark.com/dancehall.html .

The following is a partial cut/past from: http://cajuntravel.com/events.php?startdate=02/28/2014&enddate=03/04/2014&category=all&city=all&link=homepage#event2 (remember, there are contradictions regarding the bands lineup and times.) If you plan to attend any of the festivities, it would be a good idea to call the establishment ahead to confirm correct times, etc. I will continue to verify with each establishment as time allows and will make posts accordingly.

Feb 28, 2014 - Mar 04, 2014Cajun Country Mardi Gras
Five day celebration beginning the Friday before Mardi Gras Day. Jam sessions, street dances, cooking demos, Mardi Gras Exhibits and special Liberty Theater show. Les Jeunes and L'il Mardi Gras runs for children on Sunday as well as an old time boucherie (pig roast). Mardi Gras Day activities include traditional Courir de Mardi Gras and downtown daylong celebration - live Cajun, Creole and zydeco music and dancing, food, children's walking parade and return of revelers.

The Eunice Courir de Mardi Gras dates back from when the town was first established in the late 19th century. The Courir was abandoned for a few years during World War II, but in 1946 a small band of riders revived the tradition. Today, the Eunice Courir de Mardi Gras has more than 2,000 participants (Including both male and female) on the run and it continues to increase each year.
