2015 Winnebago View 24M: Fresh water tank fills when hooked up to city water
Help! I saw another post on a different thread saying something about a bad valve is making the fresh water tank fill while I'm hooked up to city water. I don't want the extra weight on board if it's not needed. Is there anything I can do to fix this or troubleshoot this issue? Is there something I should be looking for? I'm new to RV'ing and so need all the help I can get. And if it requires a repair, any idea on how much it might cost? Thanks!

City water/ Tank water
Not familiar with your model, so FWIW. There should be a valve near where your water hose connects to the outside world, Marked with something like "City Water/ Fill Tank. This directs water into your tank, (duh, I know), but can also leak by if it isn't set completely to the City Water position. This would allow your tank to run over after a while. It can also leak bye even if it is in the correct position if their is something wrong like a bad seal. One symptom of this when not hooked to city water is the fresh water pump cycles on and off at an abnormal rate when it pressurizes the system. (More often then once an hour or so).
Look in your owner's manual for advice about this system.

You might try simply opening and closing the city water/ fill tank valve a couple times. Sometimes a bit of debris can get in the valve keeping it from seating completely in the closed position. I need to do this with mine as I was on city water at an rv park and noticed my fresh water tank had gone from 1/3 to 2/3 full. I turned the city water off and used the tank water to reduce weight before I left.

Common problem in all makes of RVs. The most likely issue is the water pump check valve leaking. A leaking city water fill is probably your least likely reason for this.
You will need to rebuild or replace the water pump. Additional solutions are to add a check valve between the water pump and the water tank and use a pressure regulator to reduce the incoming water pressure to something like 50 psi.

Good input. I already use the pressure regulator and will look at the possibility of adding a check valve.

You probably saw my posts on this same issue for the last 4 weeks or so. Short answer to my problem: Dealer said probably a bad (quarter turn) valve. They replaced it and I tested it at home...problem NOT fixed. Brought back. They had my 2015 24m for 8 days and analyzed every scenario they could think of. They concluded, as unlikely as it appears, that the valve they just changed a week earlier was also bad. They plugged it in for 2 days and watched it...they said no more filling up. I just brought it home yesterday but I won't be able to check it out until next week. In the meantime, someone responding to my dilemma made a really good suggestion. He said if the problem still continues, I should just get a Shark Bite valve and put it in the line at a point where if the original valve continues to leak, the shark bite will stop it from entering the tank. I like that idea. Hope all this helps...Art

It's the check valve in the water pump. Just about a 99% chance that is where your problem is. The valve has less than a 1% chance of being the problem.
Have them replace your pump and then check it. The best fix is to add a second check valve between the pump and the fresh water tank.

City water fills fresh water tank update!
Hello Fellow RV'ers.....thanks for all the suggestions. I have been lucky so far. I did the simplest fix...turned the valve back and forth a few times and tried again. Presto-magic! The city water is no longer filling the fresh water tanks. Maybe my future does include a new water pump though. For now, we are gonna take the simple fix and a blessing. Happy Travels!
