2019 Sprinter Recall - High Beams

Just saw this recall for my new chassis. Looks like I'll get a free software upgrade! I'll wait until the seat recline fix is a available and kill two birds with one stone.

Not sure if this applies to other years or models - use the NHTSA search tool and your VIN to find out if this applies to you:

Apr 18,2019
Manufacturer Recall Number2019050015
NHTSA Recall Number19V309
Recall StatusRecall Incomplete
Summary
Daimler AG ("DAG"), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner vans, has determined that for certain VS30 Sprinter vehicles (Platform 907), the high-beam might no longer be automatically deactivated. Furthermore, it is possible that the function lever used to deactivate the high-beam might not be operable when the automatic high-beam is activated (Intelligent Headlight Control) and the camera is malfunctioning at the same time. In this case, in order to deactivate the high-beam, the light rotary switch must be turned to "manual driving light" and then the function lever must be actuated.A constant activation of the high-beam could lead to significant glare to oncoming traffic, thereby increasing the risk of an accident. An authorized Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner Sprinter dealer will update the software of the control unit "body controller" of the potentially affected vehicles.

Safety Risk
A constant activation of the high-beam could lead to significant glare to oncoming traffic, thereby increasing the risk of an accident.

Remedy
An authorized Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner Sprinter dealer will update the software of the control unit "body controller" of the potentially affected vehicles.

What seat recline fix are you referring to?

Seat Recline

On the new 2019 series 3500 chassis, when you attempt to recline the seat too far, it will transition the seat forward. It does this to prevent the seat back from hitting the back wall of the cab in some upfitter's applications. That's unnecessary in our motorhome installations (at least the Wayfarer) becaused there is nothing behind the seat for quite some distance.

This feature causes the seat to be uncomfortable for some - you have to choose between inadequate recline or reduced leg space. Mercedes and Tiffin have a fix identified that should roll out in a few weeks that will reprogram the software such that the seat will not transition forward, or at least not transition forward as soon. Getting the software updated requires a trip to the dealer.
