4500 Chassis

Anyone hearing anything about potential builds on the 4500 cutaway chassis?

Not going to happen. Mercedes has put a number of limitations on this chassis (like a speed governor for example) that it is not attractive to the motorhome builders.

I asked Trent Tiffin about the 4500 chassis while at the Hershey RV show. He stated that the towing capacity was only 500lbs so it was a no-go....

The 4500 GVWR is 12,125 towing is 7,500 on the cab chassis.
The speed limit was moved up to the same as the 3500.
Someone needs to get Trent Tiffin a spec sheet. The Tiffin Wayfarer has so little OCCC, the 4500 is the fix for their poor design.

This makes more sense. The 4500 could be a game changer, but every manufacturer seems to be trying to find reasons not to use it.

Why bother? People are buying the things as are. Yesterday I saw a sap pulling a mid sized, Edge sized say, Honda SUV on a trailer behind a Wayfarer; the tongue weight must have used up half his already meager payload. People don't care, don't know.

I'm yet to see or hear of a single Wayfarer collapsing under the weight of it's occupants, cargo or towing loads! Fake News!

I too would want to believe the Wayfarer's have poor payload is inconsequential if I owned one.

I'd worry if going down the road at a weight over the rating of my coach, I'd be in a constant state of anxiety waiting for a tire to blow or a suspension component to fail. Doing such a thing goes against my training and the notions of the safe and proper way to do things I had all my working life. Exceeding mechanical limits simply wasn't done.

Amen, there’s a lot of that done out there.

A friend just picked up a cab chassis 3500xd. It is called 4500 ready. The front has the 400 lb additional capacity on the build sheet, the rear leafs are the same part numbers as a 4500. Gvw sticker lists the 3500 weights, about a 1000lbs less than a 4500. We're perplexed and so is the mercedes dealer.
