ABS malfunction, ESP malfunction, and ASR malfunction. Now engine warning light.

Itasca Navion 2012. ~45,000 miles. On vacation in the panhandle in Florida. After driving for a while with three warning lights ABS, ESP, and ASR (intermittently), earlier today we lost power momentarily and then engine warning light came on. We were able to drive to a one person mechanic shop in Fort Walton Beach. He checked for codes and several showed up, including wheel sensor, and some relating to transmission and engine. We left it there, but are very concerned if this was the right decision.

Doe anyone know of the good place in the Destin/Ft. Walton/Pensacola area. Towing is very expensive so towing all the way to the Mercedes dealer in Jaksonville or Mobile is really out of question.

We have had so much bad luck with this RV, I highly discourage anyone who considers buying Sprinter chassis RV.

Although an ABS (and other related codes) are concerning I believe the braking system is still working as it should.

I have had intermittent ABS codes on my coach since I got it. The last time I took the time to get the blink codes and found the front drivers side sensor was not within the specification. I pulled it out, cleaned it and reinstalled.

I think you should be able to drive it to the closest qualified repair shop.

How does one find the "closest qualified repair shop"? I have spent hours on the Internet looking for one with no luck. No Freightliners near by and the closest dealer dealing with sprinters is in Mobile, Alabama. With the lost of power earlier yesterday, we are too terrified to go into limp mode on the I10 to try to cover 120 miles to this dealer.

The Sprinter van is marketed by Dodge, I would try a Dodge dealer.

Forget Dodge
This is a late model MB Sprinter, so services by Dealer or Specialist Independent like me & my business.

First off what does qualified mean?
A mechanic or technician (horrible latter description describes a photo copy machine fixer) who has been trained with what are called middle technical skills on the product platform involved .

That middle technical skills bit is the denominator, its a rarer commodity these days.

From the scant info posted I suspect the ABS wheel sensor has gone down or got rubbed through by wheel contact or torn out !
With a loss of wheel speed signals from the rear wheels the transmission cannot compute a shift point so it goes into limp for safety.
Lights come on on the dash board.

I have advised the poster of this issue to approach the one man mechanic in Walton Beach and ask him to inspect the harnesses coming of the ABS sensors. Even rubbed through or maybe ton out an hour with a soldering iron and insulation might just reinstate the system so that it works.

I posted this on the Sprinter forums!
I have copied it here because this applies to anyone buying a new or Used RV. Get it inspected by someone independently qualified to PDI before handover.
Big money and headaches are involved!
RV shouldn't mean Ruined Vacation

What a tale of woe!
Here is my explanation of what has occurred.
The root cause is the bodybuilder and rough handling when the chassis cab was delivered into their plant and build movements during assembly .

I have come across this with bus chassis and trucks delivered to body bodybuilders having worked for three major well known Euro truck and bus makers as an international territory zone rep/engineer!

In short the chassis was forked off a delivery truck with a strap wrapped around the prop shaft and dropped on the ground. Hence the mis- alignment and bent drive line experiences.

I have come across this when running an assembly plant in Iran. It took a lot of effort to change the practice, although I confess in neighboring Iraq the changes took place much quicker due to corporal punishment by caning of the caress handling perpetrators in the canteen!

Of course the dealer who sold you the RV as a turn key delivery was also to blame!
In short a total lack of a thorough DPI before hand over!

Normally in the bus world a dealer PDI will/should pick up these defects/damages before the vehicle delivered to destination.

I don't know if it too late but a few phone calls to the dealer that sold you the RV and the body builder might not go amiss since you must have spent a small fortune on tyres.

If you have any further concerns please call me on 720 344 1877 (business) and I will try to help some more even give the mechanic in Walton Beach some guidance if he needs it.
All the best
Dennis
