DEF usage amount?

I have a 2016 Navion on a 2015 3500 chassis. I had the emission system recall performed. I was told that DEF use would increase but not told any further details. Before the reall I got around 1700 miles on a gallon of DEF. With the recall performed does anyone know how much DEF usage I should expect?

1700 miles consumes 1 gallon of DEF? Wow!! I'm jealous

I see a 2 1/2 gallon jug last about 600 miles

I based that estimate on the fact when after the first dealer service and they said the DEF tank was topped off, I addedapproximately a gallon after 1700 miles. I thought someone on one of these Sprinter forums said after the emission recall we could expect to use a gallon every 1000 miles. I've read that one's driving style affects the amount of DEF consumed. I look forward to hearing what other owners report.

I had the recall done and just returned from a 3000 mile trip. Looks like I used about 3+ gallons. More than I used to, but not so bad.

We haven't noticed any real difference in DEF consumption post-recall in our 2016 Sprinter. We just fill it from a pump at a truck stop whenever the DEF tank gauge suggests it is thirsty. We rarely let it get below half, because we keep reading about DEF crystal formation and how it can affect the sensors long term. No idea whether that's true, but it's not a big deal to refill that way and then we don't have a half-full box of DEF knocking about in the back of the van, just waiting for a chance to spill and make a horrendous mess.

I think it depends on how you are driving. City driving seems to use more, but interstate driving uses less.

I think I used 2 1/2 gallons after 2 or 3 thousand miles. Don't remember exactly.

It sounds like from the replies, about a gallon every 1,000 miles is the average DEF consumption I might expect.
I wish my Navion had a DEF gauge on the dash. It's a "2016" motorhome, on a "2015" chassis.
Thanks for all the replies.

I have a 2016 Navion G on a 2015 chassis and a DEF gauge is available with my Scangauge with the proper X-code programmed in. Don't recall the details of the X-code but it should be on the Scangauge website. Seems accurate - when it gets below about 50% I put in a 2.5 gallon box of DEF and it goes up to somewhere close to 100%.

You could also try asking your nearest MB dealer if there's a way they can add a DEF gauge by flashing the ECU. I'm pretty sure I've heard some say they took their unit in for some other software/firmware work, and discovered a DEF gauge had been added afterwards.
My 2017 came with a factory DEF gauge in the steering wheel buttons, and like johninsd, I added an X-Gauge to my SGII when I added several other MB supported X-Gauges. BTW, programming X-Gauges is tedious work. It's like signing in to a TV streaming app using the remote control and the on screen keyboard.

my 2016 Prism 24G has a DEF gauge - I just push the M button twice as I recall and it comes up - looks just like the 10bar fuel gauge. Usage before AEM recall was about 1500+ mile to a gallon and afterwards appears to be about 1000,

Is your "2016" on a 2015 or 2016 Mercedes chassis? Quite often the model year of the motorhome doesn't match the model year of the chassis. Thanks for your DEF usage report.

It's suppposed to be on a 2016 chassis. 2015 Sept date for the chassis and a Jan 2016 date for the coach. (as I recall). No steering wheel buttons.

Ah, there's the difference. Mine does have the steering wheel buttons and the chassis is a 2015. Thanks again for your info and advice.

Anytime. Yeah, the 2015 chassis does not have the DEF gauge as far as I know.
