Drivers Door key not working

Driver's door key just rotates left and right but does not unlock the door lock. Key FOB still works, so the lock mechanism must still be OK. Just the interface of the key portion isn't aligned or something.

Anyone know how much of the door I have to disassemble to fix this problem?

Apparently, there's a child safety device on all the doors. Any chance?

Failing that... some threads from Sprinter Source... maybe a little more expertise over there? Seems one person managed to disassemble it from the outside?

Winterbagoal - Thanks for the links, unfortunately had seen them before. There were some others, one notably by two British girls who had to take their door apart due to a busted key in the lock. No fear there.

I've also posted on Sprinter-Source, but no responses yet. Was mainly hoping that there was an easy way to fix this, but things are looking towards not-so-much. Looks like it's the ball & socket end of the control cable that has popped off for some reason, or broken at worst. Thing that I'll probably pull the door panel off first and see if I can get to it that way. Just a pain. At least the actuator still works and I can still get into the RV through the cabin door.

I saw something in one of those links about some plastic part breaking or disconnecting inside the door. PITA to get to, but good that work arounds are working around. Good luck with it.

Finally gave up wishing that the door would repair itself and decided to pull the driver's door panel off to see if I could see what was wrong. Door panel removal was a pain, but not as bad as I had imagined. YouTube to the rescue again. Someone had posted removal instructions and they helped a lot.

Luckily was able to see the problem after removing the inner shielding material. There is a simple ball and socket connection that connects the key lock to the door mechanism. No retainer, so it can pop off at will I guess. I was able to get some long nose pliers on the socket part and position it on top of the ball portion. Then took the blade of a long screw driver and pressed it into place. We'll soo how long it stays. At least it works for now.

Would have taken pictures, but it was just too cramped.

Based on the mental image I have of a ball and socket joint, would a cable tie or two wrapped around the joint have helped to keep the 2 parts together a bit longer?
Just a random thought.

I'm sure that it would, if you could manipulate the cable tie. Unfortunately there wasn't even enough space to get my fingers in the space and my hands are relatively small. Looking back, I recall that I was messing with the door lock mechanism and tried to close the door with the latch closed. Maybe that was enough to pop the socket off of the ball. Hopefully it will not happen again. Taking the door panel off was more of a bother than a difficult task, but it's one I don't care to repeat very often. At least there is another point of access, if it does.

Looks like the US is finally going to allow the rest of the world in, if they're vaccinated and not from any place we don't like. I remember you saying that you crossed the border to shop for items. With the supply chain problems, our store shelves aren't looking like third world, but it's odd what items are in short supply.

The year grows short. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. If we don't connect again, have as a happy holiday season as possible.

You'd need to pull the door upholstery off to find out what's wrong. You're more likely to damage something in the process than find that you can fix it. if it were me, I'd leave it alone. Do you ever use the key to get into the coach? I don't. And, if the key fob fails, you can always get in via the coach door.

On 10-16-21, he fixed the door lock.

Safe travels,
