Question Mercedes Sprinter DEF Problems

My 2011 Navion J has less that 100K Miles and has had continuous problems with the DEF equipment. I cannot depend on it for trips of any distance.
It is registered in NV and I wish to have the DEF components removed and computers reset for normal operation. Open for suggestions on how to do myself or by professional conversion.

I am not able to tell you how to delete your DEF system because that is illegal. I can offer some information that may help your understanding the systems at play. Many folks think the DEF works with the Diesel Particulate Filter and it's regeneration process. That is not the case, they are not connected. DEF is used with the Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) device and is controlled by the PCM (computer), as you noted.

The PCM would have to be reprogrammed to operate as if there were no SCR or DEF systems. Anyone in business in the United States would expose themselves to hefty fines from the EPA, were they to help or perform the work. You will need to look outside the U.S. to find someone who would reprogram your PCM. Possibly Malone Tuning in Canada or Yeti Tuning in Italy. Both do the 3.0 L CRD Mercedes engines. They may be able to advise if any physical changes are necessary, or just software revision.

You may want to retain a future method to bring it back to stock in case you wish to resale the vehicle or emissions testing comes to your door.

It would be helpful if you would describe the exact problems you are having.

Have you had a dealership look at it? My 2011 Navion was part of a major emissions recall that included DEF issues. I recently started having the Check engine and DEF lights come on and the countdown to shutdown started.

Mercedes dealership covered the repairs under a warranty from the recall. I needed a new pump for the DEF tank

I also had a dealer replace the pump and it worked for a while. My son has used it recently and repotted several error codes appearing on the dash. I will be running the unit this weekend and check it out on my reader and report later.

What we also discovered was that the voltage going to the pump was not sufficient so even with a new tank and pump we needed to replace a significant amount of wiring.

We may never know the true cause but rodents chewing the wires is the current thought.
