I have the X2S factory radio with Rand McNally navigation. While I like the unit overall it has been locking up and freezing from time to time and becoming more frequent.

My replacement options seem to be Kenwood with Garmin navigation or using an app via Apple CarPlay (already have iPhone).

The app would allow me to consider some of the oversized screen double DIN units, but I’m concerned about relying on a phone app when I’m in locations without cell coverage.

Any suggestions or relevant experiences to share?

I have a 2013 Winnebago Via (class A on a 2012 Sprinter chassis)

Any input on steering when controls, I remember that Winnebago issued a recall to remove the Axxess interface without replacement thus removing that capability.

Don't know much about iPhone apps, radio/camera units, and so on, but you could use a standalone Garmin GPS for navigation and add lifetime maps and traffic to it. They're not tied to cell towers for navigational function.

I had this exact issue and discovered my SD card was defective. I went to do an update via the downloaded Docker PC program and it told me mine might be defective and to contact Rand McNally. They sent me a new one and it’s been great ever since.

The Garmin navigation system is a huge plus for these units, in my opinion. They are so much more intuitive than the alternative. It was my choice when replacing the Riverpark unit in my Era. Then Riverpark offered up a free replacement so I went that route.

I had a professional car stereo guy install a Pioneer radio for me that supports both Apple Car Play and Android Auto (same function for both phone types). I use Google Maps which has a feature that allows you to download the maps ahead of time, so when I'm home I just select the area I'll be traveling in on Google's Offline Maps and it downloads them. I used it to drive to Alaska and really needed to maps working when I had no cell service - it worked great.
