Pre-2008 Sprinter v new Sprinter

Hi everyone,

I'm seeking advice and the experiences of anyone who has owned an RV or van based on a 2007 or earlier Sprinter chassis that utilized the 2.7 L diesel that did NOT require DEF.

I had a newer model Sprinter with the new 3.0 turbodiesel engine, that had the newer emission control system requiring DEF fluid. And other than the problems with that one thing, and there were many, I loved the vehicle, and if I am now seeking opinions from owners of the older models, because I would buy one if they had good experiences.

I'm not interested in "removing" the DEF system from a newer model-- for all of the reasons stated earlier.

Thanks for any help!

The earlier Sprinters had their own set of problems with transmissions. Kind of a toss up. The 5 cylinder diesel had a few quirks of its own.

My 2016 chassis, 2017 Navion runs like a top and has no problems DEF wise. Mercedes made changes on every generation Sprinter so it is hard to say what your problem was. Sensors can fail but they are covered under warranty for 5-7 years depending on what state you purchased in.

You can get the Ford Transit based C class motorhomes with a 5 cylinder diesel or gas engine if you want to try something different.

luvlabs,

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to try renting one this summer in the hopes that maybe I just got an unlucky lemon, because when mine ran, it was great.
