DIY Oil Change

I hope I didn't miss a thread that has some of these questions.

I usually have my MH serviced but I'd like to do an oil change myself.

Where do you get your oil filter? Type? Walmart, Amazon.
I was thinking of removing the oil plug and installing a valve
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VQJQYYU

Is this the correct valve? 18mm?

How about using Costco oil?
I do not have an oil pan but I can probably pick one up at Walmart.
I'm pretty sure I have all the tools I'll need. 3/8" and 1/2" socket set. Torque wrench.

TIA.

That is the right valve......make sure it's the right engine application......you will be doing yourself a favor by installing this device for future oil changes. Your first oil change will require a pan......make sure it will hold the amount of oil your engine holds.....5 or 6 quarts. After the initial oil change you will install the shutoff valve and from here on out, save your empty 5 gal oil container and you use that to capture you next oil change....by attaching a piece of CLEAR ( you can visually monitor the oil draining) plastic hose to the valve into the empty oil container.
You can get your oil from any big box stores..walmart, target, auto stores etc., you will also need a oil filter wrench. Good luck

oil

Oh boy,

5 quarts of costco oil ?

I have changed oil in my 33.2 for 5 years (along with all other maintenance)

Well Palazzo diesel holds 18 quarts if I recall correctly.
The new oil must meet CES20081 standard ?
You will need a some big drain buckets along with an oil pump or some other funnel way to get the new oil in.
Its not user friendly.
The spec oil is ultra low ash oil required for emissions.

As long as you are at it, test the engine coolant for SCA levels also, change the transmission main filter, change front axle lube oil, change rear differential oil, fuel filters, generator oil and filter, etc, maybe the generator air filter too.. Don't forget the engine air filter every 2-3 years also. Don't forget the power steering fluid flush and filter change. Lets not forget the chassis grease lube and drive train lube. And what ever I forgot.
As you may guess I will not buy another diesel
Every time I work on it my wife says "throw your clothes in the garbage"

I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

Yup, I don't crawl around on the dirt anymore unless I have too so I take everything in for service now. Even after crawling under the car I'm limping for days anymore.

Hi Don, I have had my Palazzo for over 2 years and have had the oil and filters changed at an oil service center. I am going to change it my self this time. Yes it will be a dirty job, yes I will be lying on my back but I already change the generator oil and service it my self, plus I changed the air filter a month ago on the coach sooooooo. I don't mind getting dirty and I know it is done right............

As to your filter question, I have a cummins center a few miles from my house, when I bought the Palazzo I went and bought a spare oil filter, fuel filter and water separator to carry on the road with me ( having been around diesel motors I never leave without a spare fuel filter). They were able to look it up and give me the correct filters etc. Also for some reason as I recall?? I want to say I called Freight liner and gave them the vin # and they were able to tell me the amount of oil and filter #'s as well, but don't hold me to that.....

Freightliner has always been very helpful and first class to deal with.

You might want to change the oil in your car first and see how that goes before tackling a diesel.

Be careful putting a valve in place of the plug. My 33.3 bottoms out on the oil pan. I put rollers on the hitch, but it still hits the pan.Click image for larger version

Are you kidding me? Does it bottom on driveway entries or are you talking about dirt roads with large bumps? This seems like a serious potential problem. I haven't noted anything like that in 8000 miles. Been down some pretty bumpy dirt roads also. What year is your rig?

I've never been down a bumpy dirt road. It hits entering driveways and gas stations. The worst damage has been up front with the fiberglass. So far, I've been able to make the repairs myself.

I can say with certainty that FUEL filter is not the correct OIL filter for your engine. I use Fleetguard filters from the local Cummins shop, the cost is reasonable. Can't beat Wal-Mart for oil.

Excellent, I will be tackling mine soon....was the fuel filter and separator difficult?
