Onan 600 generator diesel consumption

I had my generator under very heavy load for 50 hours straight at the LSU football game this weekend. Started it at 8am Friday morning and my father in law arrived in his coach at about 2pm at the tailgate spot without generator power. So we ran both a/c's in ours (90 degrees plus this weekend) and other miscellaneous things in our coach and my father in law stepped his 50 amp cord down to plug into the outside outlet in our bay to run his back A/C all weekend and some of his lights. Generator never missed a beat even under a pretty heavy load. We did only run one of our a/c's at night in our coach and one in his.

Had a full tank of diesel when we started and drove 120 miles round trip to Tiger stadium and returned home with a half tank of diesel. Subtracting the 12 gallons to travel leaves 33 gallons used by geny and divided by 50 hours is .66 gallons per hour. Not bad considering the load for 50 hours. For fall games I can return home with 3/4 tank because light load on generator and use of the inverter. But this time of year we need those A/C's..

I thought it was interesting because I've heard .5 - .6 gallons per hour and that's what it was even under heavy load.

yes. it's mandatory out there.

after 50 hours of use make sure you have thick gloves when you grab it to take it down.. Don't ask how I figured that out..

Great comeback that first week Billy! Keep the South looking good. 😉

????????

What is the A/C Mod? Is that when you were looking at different A/C's or did you do a mod to the current supplied one's?
Thanks!
Don

Brought it in to a local shop and told them I wanted quieter A/C's. He told me before I spend that much to let him build a "cover" where our air intake is on the ceiling and he thinks he can get the sound way down. Similar to a Newmar with the nice wood work that covers their air intake. Don't know if it will work but will be a cheaper fix if it does.

Just dropped off this morning to have the generator serviced and he is taking measurements for later next month when he slows down some and he has time to build it.

Good to know about the fuel usage.

I used info from your previous posts to determine I could run the generator for days on end when I needed to keep the coach cool for my dogs. Worked great!

Thanks,

Allan
