Thanks! I've tried that, holding it in preheat/prime for over a minute. But all I get is a rapid clicking, similar to a car when battery is too weak to turn the engine over. I know it's gonna turn out to be pilot error.

Have you tried starting it directly from the switch on the generator?
The clicking noise is normal.
We are assuming your house batteries are well charged.

Tried from the switch - same result. Batteries fully charged (plugged in, too).

Did the generator run OK during PDI?
Only other thing I can think of short of returning to dealer or Cummins is that there is not enough fuel in the tank or the tank sensor is reading incorrectly. If you are low on fuel the generator will not run.

Thanks. It ran well during PDI. Then we "hit the road" and it wouldn't start next time we tried it! Wondering if I changed something on inverter control that affected it? (I'm still trying to figure that thing out!) Left dealer with full tank of fuel & gauge now shows 2/3+ so unless the pickup for the gen is mispositioned there must be something else!

I think if it was a fuel issue, it would still crank, but just not fire! Just a guess, though!

Go to the "Troubleshooting" section (page 25) of your "Operator Manual" to learn how to read the fault codes. The instructions are too lengthy to quote here. The codes are multi level so pay close attention to the instructions. It may take more than one try. My Genset worked fine for 50 hours and then one morning it acted as you are describing. Turned out that the fuel pump failed which is a common occurrence based on other threads.

Just to make sure. Are you holding the button down until the green light comes on and then pushing the button up?

Left it overnight for evening shift to fix.

Yep, folks. It was pilot error, after all. Took it by the Camping World in Spartanburg, technician came out and simply pushed in the top part of the rocker switch, held it down for maybe 20-25 seconds, and it cranked right up.

Strange... he didn't even push the bottom part of the rocker to prime or heat glow plugs. He said the clicking I heard was the fuel pump.

So now I know... the manual isn't always the best source. Thanks to all for your input. You can now refer to me as IDIOT ED! (For the time being, anyway)

Glad it worked out. We all learn from this.
