Your thoughts on this

Front left corner I found a crack in the fiber glass. Is this a structural defect or did a rock/object/something hit it to cause this?

Is there any way , or at least anything visible on the inside of the pillar that may have been mounted with too long a screw ?

JMHO: Looks like inside out damage rather than off the road.

It could be the result of an adhesion problem in the gel coat sprayed into the mold before the fiberglass is put in. I have seen similar in the boat business. It is repairable but will need repainting.

does the area feel thin, by pressing around it does it give? If yes, its structural.

Ferdinand,

The area is as hard as a rock. In fact, I think that corner of the fiber glass is the hardest part of the entire front cap.

if there is something underneath it to cause a clean crack like that it usually creates a bulge... a hit from the outside will usually leave a mark, I would say its a defect.

Yeah, there are no scratches in the paint, nothing. It is just a clean crack. This Palazzo just seems to continue to surprise us with problems. It's going back to Elkhart next year. I just hope it will make it that long.

Something is pushing on that point from the interior, most likely a screw.

That does not surprise me. This is not the first area where a screw is trying to come through the exterior. There are about 5 other places on the Palazzo where the fiberglass is bulging. I have another thread here with one of the worse ones. This Palazzo is turning out to be a disaster.

Blues--I have followed your "saga" since you first signed up and I must say, I admire your capacity for patience. (I would have been "postal" long before now!!) I had such high hopes when you got your newest Palazzo; I thought "Finally, he can enjoy RVing!"

I know that Thor is not the only manufacturer that is taking shortcuts with quality, but it's a shame that you and others have to pay with your money, time, and mental stability to deal with something that was bought to be fun and relaxing. Good luck and I hope this situation works out for all Palazzo owners. What a fiasco.

Does Thor and the other manufacturers follow this and other forums to see what is being said about their products. Are they concerned about it. I guess not.

Sarah,

Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate the fact that there is a place like IRV2 where I can share all my issues. The wife and I are taking this day by day. We don't know what will happen next. I will probably do what so many others have done and that will be to take a huge loss and get out from under it. When that will happen, we just don't know.

I always dreamed we could financially be in a position to buy a Class A DP. That time has come and gone. Now we are just hoping we can financially be prepared for the inevitable out of warranty problems and the huge loss we will have to endure to get rid of it. We can't even go on a trip without having to worry about what's going to break next. I consider myself a handyman. I can fix just about anything that has a screw, nuts and bolts. However, this Palazzo is testing my patients. Where is the silver lining?

I can only imagine the depth of your disappointment and frustration. My very best wishes for a good outcome for you.

Our Bounder was our first RV and we have been extremely lucky with it, knock on imitation wood! We consider trading up someday to a DP, but I'm not sure we want to gamble. Buying an RV is a crapshoot for sure.
