Eastern Rally 2024

We just returned from our trip to Newfoundland and while catching up with my emails I see the rally info.

Apparently, the loop is full. Site 80 might be available.

I'm finding the website to be difficult to navigate, but my pea brain is cloudy.

What are the next closest sites?

kcfissel, The reservation site this morning shows site 80 is booked from 9/17 to 9/23. Would this happen to be you & Vicki?

Hope your trip to Newfoundland this year was a nice one. That's on our bucket list, so we might try and hit you up for some info if we see you at the rally.

Yes Ted, that would be us.
I finally was able to complete the reservation.
We're anxious to see everyone again.

Although Alan and I have a potential conflict that may cause us to cancel, I did reserve site #105 for the Rally. Arriving on the 19th, departing on the 23rd.

A heartfelt thank you to Sharon and Dave for stepping up to host this year's event!

Looking forward to seeing everyone and hoping this works out for us!

Available Sites

If the suggested loop (78-97) is full there are many close by sites. Sites 100-104 are close as is the next loop 105-116. All are a short walk or bike ride to sites 78-97.

Can anyone recommend a campground or state park near Hershey / Gettysburg. Kathy and me are thinking about the ORV Rally, but until I researched it, I realized just how far from Hershey it is. Always wanted to go to the Hershey RV Show and Gettysburg.

Campgrounds near Gettysburg

There are 2 PA state parks very close to Gettysburg. Caledonia State Park and Codorus State Park are on either side of Gettysburg. Both have water and electric hook-ups and very nice shower facilities. We have stayed at both-on the way home from ORV rallys and when our sons were little.

Also, if you belong to Harvest Hosts there are multiple breweries and wineries in the area that are hosts.

There are multiple private campgrounds in and around Gettysburg but it has been many years since we camped at any of them- we were tent camping back then.

Hope this helps,
Sharon

Jim, take a look at Gifford Pinchot State Park. It's kinda sorta halfway between Hershey and Gettysburg.

UGH! The website is one of the worst I've had to use ever. But FINALLY got it done! Will be arriving on the 19th and heading out on the 23rd. Site #101

This rally was not on our radar until about an hour ago. Looking forward to seeing those who were at the VT rally a few years ago (see some names that look familiar) and meeting more "family" members

We reserved site 76 for the ORV rally. Looks like the whole campground has a lot of nice campsites. We reserved Tue to Tue ( 7 nights ). 76 is a pull thru site and only 2 sites from the official ORV Rally Loop. 😁

We also reserved a week before the rally at Gifford Pinchot State Park (PA.) near Gettysburg to do the Hershey RV Show ( bucket list item ), Gettysburg ( bucket list item #2 ) and Amish area of Lancaster.

My only CONCERN is: how do I get to Pocahontas State Park without going through Washington DC ( THE BELTWAY 😱😱😱 ). I drove the Beltway 20 some years ago, and said I’ll never do that again.

Yes, I’ll bring my sign Cliff ( Cornbinder ) made 3 years ago for me. Haven’t been too active on IRV2 the last few year. Too much time re-doing the house, Kathy keeps my busy 😱😱 and RVing. I was the first Wagon Master in 2018 ( Cook Forest State Park / NW. PA. ). I brought up the idea of us crazy people driving across country to buy one of these things. Before I knew it, I was appointed Wagon Master for the 1st ORV East Coast Rally.

Jim, we live in Central Pa and plan on taking I-81 south to I-64 East. I am like you, don't want to do the beltway. We plan on staying at the Sherando Lake National Forest campground a couple of nights on our way to the rally since it's about halfway. We have heard it's a lovely campground and we can use our Sr discount.
We only live 70 miles from Hershey so we have visited the show numerous times and may go just to visit the vendors and possibly find some new items for the unit.
Hope this info helps you out.

X2 on 81 to 64. Love 81, hate 95. We've not been on it, but 288 in Virginia looks like it might be a pretty direct connection to Pocahontas.

Hagerstown, Maryland, is a good gas stop if you're looking to avoid Pennsylvania's higher prices. We usually stop there on the way out and back when traveling 81. Plus, they have a Krispy Kreme, if you're in need.

If your schedule allows, plan for two days at the Hershey show, if you want to see everything and visit the vendors' booths. It's BIG.

Hope to see you guys in September!

Mary
