Thanks for the tongue weight angle I can use to stoke the safety fears towards buying the F450! I liken buying a new rig to fishing for a big billfish. I've got her hooked and near the boat (as far as the ORV is concerned) and almost within gaff range. Landing a F450 will be a major accomplishment!

Just finished doing an install of a Dometic topper with the metal guard that matches the existing one on the trailer. I did the install by myself and wish I had another person to help. The only time I could have used the help was when putting the awning part as you need to slide the leading edge thru the awning rail. My awning was right at 96 inches so I was able to balance it myself as I slid it thru the awning rail.
Now both the topper and regular awning match. I do believe it took a little longer than 45 minutes. All that measure twice cut once type of deal.

Measuring? Cutting? Next you're going to tell me there's math involved?

Didn't know Dometic made slide toppers. Obviously there's a lot of this I don't know. But if anybody wants to know how to back up a B747 without a tug I'm here for you!

Interesting, I used to work part time for a company that loaded UPS planes. The last day I worked there they wanted me to push back the plane, we are talking about a 757. I declined.

LOL It's pretty hard by yourself but you see those he-men do it all the time with the strap in their teeth! Even with a tug it's not a one person job.

Through my years of reading RV forums, it seems the bulk of the slide issues are with the Schwintek style vs the rack type. I've had the rack type on all my trailers with slides.
No motor syncing or cables to stretch.
Funny, after just four years, the rack type on our big slide bit the dust. After 6 years, no problem yet with the Schwintek. Cranked that big slide in by hand 1500 miles from home, left it in, and decided next year to get a new trailer without any slides.

We went with the 21RWS and despite a bad ground on the slide switch we're glad we did. We did a 2 week trip with the slide inop and that was fine, although the next one with it working was a lot finer!
