Beach Camping

We finally took our 21 FBS BackCountry camping on Padre Island National Seashore. Shortly before departing the slide-out and awning both lost all power. Thanks to some help from the manufacturer I was able to locate a ground wire in the forward access panel underneath that came loose so after a quick fix we were on our way.

We didn’t regret opting for the trailer with larger tanks and an onboard generator as air conditioning is great to have when it gets particularly hot and sandy.

We were joined by our adult son and family but the 80 gallons of fresh water lasted through seven showers and the propane for the generator far exceeded time limits I had read online.

In fact, we were so conservative that on the return I discovered we used only 5 of 14 available gallons of propane running the generator one day and throughout much of the night on another not to mention cooking, fridge etc... I would estimate we ran it a minimum of 8 hours.

Padre Island National Seashore

Thanks, we always had a reason not to visit so it was great finally getting there. Even on one of the busiest holiday weekends of the year you could easily drive 15-20 miles out and avoid the crowds. Too many people park bumper to bumper at the first few miles.

Waking up to the higher tide with water at your tires is a little unnerving but the views are beautiful. We have used the trailer in freezing weather up north but this time it was great to try the dual pane windows and insulation in the heat. Our previous RV was a large class A with two big air conditioners struggling to keep it habitable in a Texas summer. This little trailer has one air conditioner that can even run on a 20 amp house plug which keeps the trailer ice box cold.
