Generators
Hey all,
Last camping trip was a hot one, and we decided we need to bump up our generator so we can run AC. We've had a Honda EU2000 for many years, but just one. Do you prefer using the two smaller generators, or one big one, and why? Or do you wish you had done something different?
Thanks!

Instead of another generator, Have you thought about a micro air soft start for the a/c? I have a 2400 Yamaha it won’t run my 15k, easy start is on my wish list

I have both the Honda 2000's and a Predator 3500.....with a soft start capacitor, one Honda will run the A/C, but takes 2 to run more stuff at the same time...they weigh 45 lbs each and the Predator handles all....weighs 100 lbs...and you can add a 6 gal extended tank to either of them...

Hi MBD,
I have one Honda EU2200 and it runs the air on my 25RDS no problem. In fact, as long as I don’t have to many other draws, I can slip it into “echo” once the AC has started. I do not have a soft start system.

Same here. The EU2200 runs our AC just fine too. We've been as high as 7000' with no problem.

Another Predator 3500 owner here. I do have the soft start system as we ran into problems carrying the load when in elevation over 7000'. I carry it on the rear bumper and it has worked well for 25000 miles.

I was running 2 Champion 2k watt inverter models (100565) for our 24RLS. They weigh in at 50# each and produce clean and quiet power. Good little generators. In singular form one would power everything but the a/c. Would not kick on the a/c even if everything else was off.
Paired up they did fine running everything even at altitude of 9500 ft but they would have to work a bit.
I recently picked up a Champion 3150 watt inverter, don’t recall the model off hand but I snagged it on sale at Lowe’s for $600.00 plus tax. It weighs in at 80#.
It runs everything fine and barely ramps up with the a/c, works much less than the 2 paired 2k units even at 10k altitude in 90 degree weather.
I ended up selling one of the 2k units for $400.00, that payed for 2/3 of the larger unit. Debating on keeping the other as a back up or if we are in cooler climates and not needing the a/c.
If I do sell it I will end up +$200.00 as far as offset on the 3150 watt unit.
To me the larger unit is a good trade off, it’s only 30# heavier than a single 2k watt unit, it will run everything with power to spare and I only have a single engine to maintain.

I like the parallel EU2000i as I can pick up one of them at a time. A larger generator is too heavy for me. You can also run just one EU2000i if you are not running too much stuff.

I also have 2 Honda EU2200 generators. I had a single Honda EU3000 which worked well to power everything, but it was a beast to pick up and move around, Decided 2 smaller ones was the better choice. Much lighter to throw into the back of the truck and can use just one most of the time. I have a 15K air conditioner and found out the other day that if I turn the breaker off to the inverter so that it isn't charging the batteries when the air conditioner kicks on, It will run with the one generator. An easy start is on my list of wants. I think that trying to run just one generator with A/C is hard on the generator and the A/C unit both.

2 2,000 watt predators with the paralell kit. Works great and as mentioned earlier, you can lift them one at a time.

I installed the Easy Start a few weeks ago. Went out last weekend and camped at 6500' and ran our A/C off a single Honda 2000EU. Made my wife very happy since it was 95 degrees.

I've had a Honda 3000 for over 15 years with no issues. But now with son gone I have no real way to load it up. I have a breaker on my battery charger due to the 2000W inverter. I am sure the honda 2200 will run the AC as much as I need so might be looking at one of them. I do like the ones with remote on-off so if there is one that is well under 100 pounds with it I'll consider that.
