I installed the Microair easy start on my 15K A/C. Starts and runs flawlessly with my Westinghouse iGen2500 even in 100 degree heat. The Microair module effectively manages the startup current.

Exactly, put an amprobe on my ac line into air conditioner and saw amps slowly ramp up to 13.1 amps, instead of the normal 30+ [breaker tripping] surge when compressor came on. They are not cleap, but you sure can save fuel and money by buying a smaller generator.

Doing a re-fire on this thread.

Looks at generators for our TT. AC unit is a 13.5 Coleman. Thinking of getting the Honda 2200i. For those of you who are running this, is the softstart a must? If so, are you using the SoftStart brand or another version.

Found a great deal on a new Honda 2200i so want to pull the trigger on this asap.

Is it a must?

"Probably".

I have installed two Micro Air EasyStarts on my fifth wheel and they are awesome. I recommend it even to those not trying to use a 2000 W generator.

Anecdotal fun: I have run both my 15000 and 13500 on my Honda 2200eui concurrently. It was unintentional, but it actually worked until I realized it and turned one off. I am not saying this is a good idea.

Lastly, I moved from a champion 3500(3600?) to the Honda. I really liked the Champion! I love the Honda.

Jack,

thanks. Good to know. I was also considering the champion.

Love not having to carry gasoline. The Champion 2500w dual fuel powers up our Dometic 13.5 A/C and lots of other stuff no problem with our Easy Start. Honda is the best generator, but costs twice as much as other 2500w generators; more than enough saved to pay for the easy start.

I looked at them today. But, in the end, the ability to remotely shut down the Honda 2200i won out. I got it for $1129 at Camping World. The Champion looked well built and the ability to run on propane was intriguing, but the use case won out.

I see us firing up the generator around 7 pm to cool down the TT and flipping it off via the bluetooth connection before we **** down around 10 pm. Had the Champion had the same ability, I'd have bought it.

We bought the 27 BHS used and when I did the walkthrough I remember thinking how quiet the AC was when it kicked on, so I'm wondering if the previous owner didn't put one in. So, I'll check it tomorrow. If not, I'll order the SoftStart and get it installed.

Thanks all for the insight. LOVE this forum. So helpful.

Had a Honda 2000 for 10 years. Sold it for what I paid for it. Most reliable generator money can buy, if you perform scheduled oil changes and protect the carburetor by not leaving gasoline in the tank when not in use for long periods. Burn off any remaining gas before storing. Suggest you install an hour meter if the new Honda doesn’t have one.

Our Honda 2200i can start and run our Coleman 15K A/C with no issues. We do have a MicroAir EasyStart installed. We also converted our Honda to run on both gas and propane. You can an easy-to-install conversion kit from Hutch Mountain. Since we pull our 280KVS with a diesel truck, there's no need to carry any gasoline.

Whoa, wait, what? I can convert the 2200i to use propane. Thanks for the tip. Researching it tonight.

So I have used my 2000 and it runs the 15k ac.
I found this out by accident..the ac was on when I fired up the genny.
This is not good for either and I highly recommend you dont do this to your ac.
My 2000 was a companion and I bought a second 2200 for when we need to run the ac.
Our serial numbers matched. Easier to lift one at a time in and out of truck than a 4200w genny
.
When we traded our camper in on a new
Orv 28dbs it came with an onan 3600 lp genny
So even though its louder inside the camper
Than outside we sold our hondas.
I'll prolly regret this in the future.
But so far the onan is behaving nicely.

Yes indeed. It's an easy upgrade. You'll find several YouTube videos showing how to install the Hutch Mountain propane kit on your EU2200i.
