Hose fittings…..to lube or not to lube?

I never think about it again until I break camp, but my fittings for the gray and black hoses are such that I can’t get the hose off without whacking the fitting with a hammer or a wrench several times. Is it okay to lubricate the fittings…..if so, with what?

TIA!

Three choices. Silicone spray, easiest. O-ring grease, available at pool supply stores. Petroleum jelly and a brush.

texax-

Keep a small "tub" or tube of plumber's silicone grease handy for this. Make sure you mark it "DIRTY." Keep a second tub/tube for the fresh water joints (as needed). Mark that tub/tube "CLEAN." Don't mix them up!

Even vaseline or crisco works in a pinch. Just a thin smear does the trick. I don't like forcing any kind of fastener or fitting, that just translates to galling or stripping eventually.
