Luan or Azdel
Which does ORV use in their walls,luan or azdel. Couldnt find it on their website

They use luan. I asked in nov 2019 when I was there for factory tour if they plan to move to Azdel and was told no. Too bad IMO.

Only as far as if you had a leak.
Other than that, no. the increased R value is minuscule and the weight savings are nil.

At the factory tour Shannon was indicating that Luan is relatively proven compared to Azdel. I tend to think it'd be a good move to go to Azdel for the non moisture absorbing qualities. But, keep things maintained and we should all be good right?

Luan or Azdel
Facts are Azdel is 50% lighter than Luan.
Azdel r-value of 2.1, Luan .7. For interior, and exterior layers multiply by 2.
Azdel is formaldehyde free, and is made in the USA.
Azdel absorbs Sound, has a stronger impact resistance, and is a lot more stable product. Resisting extreme heat, and cold, humidity, and moisture levels.
With RV’s built with minimal framing, the bonding process is its strength, once it starts delaminating, it will spread as you lose structural integrity.
There is no change in the production process when switching to Azdel, but it does cost about 5 times more than Luan.

IMO, Azdel benefits are validated once a unit gets over 10 years of age.
