New 30RLS batteries?
Does anybody have any suggestions regarding what battery(ies) we should buy before we pick up our new 5er? I think it may be pretty spendy to buy from the dealer...

It kind of depends what you want to do with it, and the suggestions you get are going to vary a bit based on varying opinions. Here's mine:
1. If you're always going to have hookups, you really only need enough battery capacity to go between hookups. The 130 Ah ours came with was sufficient for that.
2. For light-to-moderate boondocking, you should have at least 100 usable Ah of capacity for summer use (this means 200+ Ah of actual capacity if using flooded or AGM batteries, 125+ Ah if using lithium). If planning on winter use, double that.
I am avoiding lithium currently solely due to cost -- I do not feel the increase in lifespan yet offsets the significantly higher cost. When it does, I wouldn't hesitate to go that route. For flooded/AGM batteries, your best performance and lifespan will likely be from an even quantity of 6V GC-2 batteries.
3. Be aware of how you're going to charge the batteries. If you're going to have solar, make sure you have enough solar to charge them within the number of daylight hours available. If using shore power or a generator, know that the stock WFCO charger will not under most circumstances do a bulk phase, which makes it very slow to fill a large battery bank.

Yep, really depends upon how you camp.
If you're like me, you'll start with a pair of 6V golf carts (GC2) in series. That's what my trailer came with from the dealer.
And go from there.
Need 120VAC for microwave when boondocking without shorepower? You'll prolly need more or better batteries and a way to charge them (solar or generator or both).
As I learn from doing, we incrementally, over the last 4 years, have added solar panels+charger, a 1000W inverter, more batteries, more solar panels, switched to 24V system, upped the inverter to 2000W, added more solar (portable panels with another charger), beefed up the truck-to-trailer charging system, and other stuff.
It's a great hobby.
I'll just add that AGM and Lithium batteries can be mounted inside and kept warm, so they don't lose much capacity in the winter. That may be our next upgrade when we can afford it.

Like Brulaz says , solar is a fun hobby. I have two RVs and two different systems, one is 3 x 12 volt AGMs with a 200 Watt portable array, controlled by MPPT and powering a 1000 PAST inverter. The other is a more conventional system of 4 x 6 volt FLAs, with 300 watts of solat, controlled by PMW and powering a 2000 Watt PSW inverter. Both are setup for boondocking, with the portable setup on a TC, just because we go to more remote locations and fixed panels might be in the shade.
With the portable panels we opted for AGMs due to lower maintenance requirements, as the solar is not hooked up full time.

From a "power pole princess" needing only one 12V battery to 100% off the grid dry/boondocking, which might mean 4 or more batteries depending on your electrical footprint, there are a lot of different ways to camp.
What kind of camper are you?

Just take what the dealer supplies and go home. You can do lots of research and questioning later. Dealer will be higher price unless extra batteries were negotiated in the sale price.

Will two group 31 fit in the standard ORV tray?
Anyone use s locking bar for security over batteries? Probably worth strong consideration if one springs for the expensive AGM battery options.
