New Timber Ridge 260CIS Owner
Hi! New to the forum and looks like some good information on the site.
In looking at the ORV Sightings thread I think we were the Timber Ridge someone said they saw at Ft. Stevens State park at the end of April. I also saw the new Blackstone and stopped by to say hi and see how they liked it.
We have been out on a couple of 3-dayers with no issues and are working on planning a longer term trip.
In terms of planning are there any suggestions for how to assess roads/routes for use with a truck/trailer prior to getting there?
I saw at least one thread where someone (Idaho Bob?) had been down to the Albuquerque area, we are considering that also but have some concerns on passes and such.
Glad to be a member, any pointers are appreciated.
Dave

Glad to have you on the forum Dave. I should have stopped by and said, "hello" when we were at Fort Stevens. You will find lots of good information here. Enjoy the new rig.

Hi Dave, welcome to the forum. You can get excellent answers to many diverse questions from our "correspondents"!
We are actually in New Mexico as I write this. Please PM me with any specific questions you might have. When I select travel routes, I stay away from the roads on maps that are tiny dashes. And having a Ram Turbo Diesel as a TV, mountain passes are of no concern .

Thanks all for the welcomes to the forum! I did some looking at the Modifications that have been done and now need to plan those.
Offroad - We should be at Ft Stevens for the festival next year, stop by and say hi.
Bob - Great advice on the tiny dashed roads, some of them looked like great shortcuts too and yes should not have problems with the TV we have.
I did post on the Navigation, Routes and Roads forum with thread titled " Advice on route to Abiquiu Lake in NM ". Will PM you if that comes up empty.
We have done many trips through known passes in the last 20 years in the PNW...we were looking for more info prior venturing further just based on google maps.
THanks Dave

We had our new Timber Ridge at Ft Stevens in early May - saw a Creekside but no other ORVs.

Bob - Forgot to mention our tow vehicle is a 2007 RAM 3500 CTD as well, guess I should add that to my profile.

Welcome! Having driven a VW bus for years I'm never in a hurry so hills and smaller roads don't bother me unless you have small bridges ( like the red bridge in Kamloops or the green bridge in Hood River that crosses the Columbia). I rarely drive more then 60 with or without the trailer and try not to do more than 250-300 miles a day. We enjoy the side roads and small towns that have been left behind by the freeways. Driving the Cassier, Top of the World and Alcan highways last year I think my average speed was 45 and loved every minute of it.

Bascoe 47 - Good feedback on drive times, our current plan exceeds you mileage for some days and our longest leg will be a little over 500 miles as we go from CA to Flagstaff. I think we will get a really early start that day and make it a late arrival. The long trips are new to us so we were probably too aggressive on a couple of legs but it is what it is. Should have been gathering feedback prior to the planning phase....

Dave. You might want to take a look at Allstays. There is an online/web version and also a version for your smartphone or tablet. It's more for finding campgrounds, RV parks, fuel stations, stores, and scenic attractions than for actual route guidance, but we used it for the first time on a 4,000 mile trip last fall and really liked it. We are using the iPad version. If you don't have WiFi on the road you can pre-load data before you leave home. It's a great tool for finding what you need when you are heading to unfamiliar country.

Fisher, thanks for the Allstays tip, didn't know there was something like that. Will work on loading info tomorrow.
Thanks
