OutdoorsRV Trailer Question

We are soooo (that means very) close to making a decision and then a trip to the Northwest. Since we can't find what we want in the used market, we're looking at buying new. My DW wants to know from OutdoorsRV owners the quality and comfort of a ”Dreamsoft” Pillow Top Mattress. I told her I'd asked the experts! She looks forward to hearing from you!

As a footnote, I really like the 2014 Arctic Fox 22H but the other half of this venture (marriage) really likes the floor plan of the Creekside 22RB. We may end up with a better price on the CS22RB. So when I add that $$ piece to my DW's opinion, while you get the picture. Finally, I am now certifiably travel trailer insane, not worth a cold cup of coffee after this search! I'm looking forward to full recovery!

And thanks once again.

We replaced the mattress that came with our 2013 Wind River with an after market high quality one from a mattress company called Sleep Country. In saying that we replaced the factory mattress in our 2009 Kodiak with the same mattress we have now. We just like the mattress. We never slept on the factory one that came with our 2013 Wind River. We really like the ORV product and did the ORV factory tour in La Grande. I would highly recommend the tour
last year on our way to the first ORV campout. Hope to see you at the ORV event this year.

Hope this helps

We didn't like the mattress in our Timber Ridge. Too thin.

We had a RV Queen size topper (1.5" foam) already so added that. It helped some, but it's still not as good as it could be.

One of these days we'll replace it. The problem is that the new mattress will be a lot heavier, so it will be even more difficult to lift the bed unless I also replace the compressed air-lifts or add a new one. That's what I had to do with the old trailer anyway.

I'm with you Coops! In 38 years of camping we have yet to buy an RV with a mattress that we've liked although we really didn't give our 260RLS a chance. In our Kodiak the mattress was like sleeping on a rock pile. We bought a mattress from Camping World which wasn't any better. Within months decided we'd had enough and purchased a Sleep Number bed. When we traded trailers this past spring our Sleep Number moved with us (and always will from now on). The people buying our Kodiak got the brand new mattress out of our Timber Ridge. I wish manufacturers would allow us to upgrade things like mattresses, plumbing fixtures and living room furniture before we take possession of these trailers.

Good luck with your decision between the Outdoors Rv and the Arctic Fox.

We bought a queen size memory foam topper from Costco, and we find the factory bed with that topper very comfortable. The only problem is that the topper seems to slide around a bit getting in and out of bed, so every few days we have to straighten it back up.best RV mattress we have ever had.

The mattress that came with our Wind River is better than most RV mattresses. Having said that, we also bought a mattress topper from Camping World and added it. Much better!

We use the OEM mattress with a 1 1/2 inch memory foam topper. OEM is better than most RVs, but still needs a bit extra. Friends of ours like the OEM in their Creekside and use it as is. Give it a try and add a topper if needed. We are very happy with our Creekside. Still has a few things to improve on, but all in all the best TT out there for the $. We've had over 15 of them in our 43 years and I grew up camping in TTs in the 50s. The perfect RV isn't out there, all you can do is get close and enjoy the journey.

We have replaced the mattresses on all our RVs. For the ones with underbed storage, I replaced the struts, an easy job, may 10 minutes max. I have used 100 psi struts with good success.

Traxless, we have a Black Rock, the poorer cousin to the Creekside line. From my own experience, Outdoors RV seem to put in any mattress they can snag, because mine did most certainly not come with the mattress touted in the Black Rock brochures. Ours came with a 5 inch foam mattress, that my 230 lb frame flattened right to the wood when I sat on it. So we added a 3 inch memory topper from Costco, satisfactorily trimmed it to the same length as the factory mattress with a jigsaw equipped with an extra-long metal cutting blade (fine teeth), and it's not a bad upgrade.

So see what you get, and decide from there.......

Heh, I tried to replace the struts on our old trailer with two 80psi ones, and the wife then had a hard time closing it. And before she had a hard time lifting it with the new mattress.

So I put back the old struts and mounted just one of the 80psi struts on the floor in the middle of the storage area facing backwards (towards the front of the trailer, in the opposite direction to the two original struts).

That worked out fine, actually evened out the extra lift through the whole range of operation. And the new strut didn't really get in the way as we had already blocked out the storage area into quarters with plastic containers.

HINT : When DW isn't looking take out the electric knife from the kitchen - it works perfect for cutting foam (like cutting butter). I got that tip from a fellow who does upholstery work. Better yet watch the garage sales for a cheap one and save the time out in the dog house.

I must be the one odd ball in the group, or just have a poor mattress at home. The wife and I like our factory mattress and sleep just fine on it. I will note that it is better than the one in our old trailer. Other than being short, it works for us.

We have the standard Queen in our Wind River TT, and within a couple days added a 2 inch memory foam topper. Made all the difference for us.
Cheers

We added a Slumber Solution Big Bump 4" memory foam mattress topper to our Wind River queen bed.....we love the results. (Overstock.com). On our return home from 3 months on the road, we wanted to keep sleeping in our trailer's bed. So we added the same matress topper to our way-too-expensive tempra pedic house bed, and solved the comfort problem. Whatever you decide on will be the start of fun adventures.
