Owners Manual - page 45 External Fresh Water Hookups

This part is confusing when and when not to use the 40 PSI in-line pressure regulator. From how this reads you only use it when you are filling up the fresh water tank. Not the "pressurized city water". Which seems weird.

Quote:

External Fresh Water Hookup
The external system is pressurized by the water system at the RV park or city water supply. The
connection is located on the road side of the trailer.
To connect to pressurized city water:
1.Connect one end of a potable water hose to the RV park or city water supply. This
will usually be a faucet or valve similar to your garden hose valve at home. Potable
water hoses are available at RV supply stores.
2. Run the city water supply for a few seconds to clear the line. Turn off the water.
3. Attach either end of the potable water hose to city water connection located on
the trailer. Make sure all connections are tight.
4. Turn on the RV park/city water supply. Open all faucets inside the trailer to clear the
lines. Then turn off faucets.

Filling the On-Board Water Tank
1. Gravity fill - The external tank fill is located on the exterior of the trailer. The onboard
water tank can be filled here. To fill the fresh water tank, remove the cap, remove the vent
plug, and fill the tank using a potable water hose.
Caution
Never over fill the on board Fresh Water Tank. Damage from overfilled water tank can
occur.
Never allow the water tank to be filled unattended. Damage caused by overfilling of fresh
water tank is considered misuse and is not covered by Outdoors RV warranty.
Since water pressure at campgrounds vary, we recommend you install an in-line pressure
regulator at the water supply faucet. This will protect the trailer water system and your
supply hose from excessively high water pressure.

I think ORV needs to hire a proof reader for their manuals... The pressure regulator should definitely be used when connecting to pressurized city water.

I agree with the suggestion of using a water pressure regulator when connected to city/campground pressurized water systems. But, what I believe that ORV is concerned with in filling the on board fresh water tank is having too much flow into the tank. As water flows in, the air has to escape through the "small" vent. If you put water in too fast the tank itself could pressurize and potentially rupture, blow off the vent tube or the fill tube.

Always use a regulator - a good quality regulator; not a cheapie.
