Slide seals maintenance

What do y'all do, whaddya use, and how often? I'm thinking of using Meguiar's Extreme Marine Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner and Protectant (separate products). I am usually impressed with Meguiar's products.

Slide seals maintenance

I am a fan of the 303 Aerospace Protectant for anything rubber on the RV.

I usually inspect them after extending the slides but particularly prior to pulling them in just to be sure that there is nothing in the way of, or in the folds of, the seals that might cut or otherwise damage them when they are compressed.

Wipe them down if they get dirty.

I have been using 3-In-One RV Care Rubber Seal Conditioner on a more-or-less monthly basis. The seals look good, feel good and are very flexible.

Remember that your slides will likely have interior seals, which need to be accessed from inside your RV as well as the exterior seals that you can see easily.

2007 5rv..3 slides

I use talcum -- baby powder
Fill a sock, tie to old mop handle and dust away prior to retracting slides

Been using it since new
Seals/Wipers still in good shape

We've had our coach with two slides for 14 years now and have never done a thing to the seals. They still work fine.

I do, however, lube the gears underneath the slideouts on a yearly basis.

I use Meguiars marine/rv not the extreme though, KMS (parts store) didn't have any of the extreme. Twice a year, spring and fall.

I am new to owning an RV with a slide. Why do the seals on the slide need treatment as they seem to have minimal weather exposure. What problem does seal treatment prevent?

Thanks in advance.

The slide rubber isn't the problem... It's the metal center clamp in the wiper seal that eventually breaks down. Not much you can do about that however, if it is able to get wet, it WILL eventually rust.

I've just replaced the slide seal on my DP on the big slide, the best upgrade entirely was a longer slide topper that now extends about 4 inches past the end of the flange on both ends - close to a foot of extra coverage! Hardly any water getting near the slide seals now, even in a monsoon.

FYI: the 18 year old seal rubber was just as soft as the new stuff.

Ok people there seems to be some confusion about what constitutes a ‘slide seal’! Are you talking about the actual slide seal which typically is a rather narrow band of rubber (bulb less than 1/2 “ in width that surrounds the slide and seals it to the body. OR are you talking a bout the wipers which is a broad blade that supposedly wipes off water as it closes. It really helps if you use the proper term.

We clean, and coat with 303 during the summer months when the trailer is used often.
Prior to winter storage we clean and wipe down with baby powder to keep the bulb seals from sticking to the slide out. So the following spring when you go to deploy the slides the seals won’t go with it.
