As for stolen portables, I bet a tiny portion of RVers post here. I have heard of them walking away. It wouldn't stop me from using a portable, I think it's a better solution. Surge protection doesn't last forever, current thinking in the electronics industry is about a 5 year service life. They are a different application, but I think it's still a good idea to replace them on a regular basis.

Thats exactly where mines installed. I also installed a remote readout under the seat bench. The nice thing with the remote readout is it has an off/on switch.
I debated between the two styles but just didn't want to deal with another thing to pack and unpack.

Seems like a reasonable approach to me. And even though I said I would prefer a portable, I'm rethinking that approach. We (I) almost walked off and left ours heading home from Arizona. Coiled the cord, tossed it inside the door, got called to another task and almost didn't go back. Made that "one last pass" and there is lay, next to the pedestal...
