Tool box for battery location

I am installing lithium ion batteries inside my 24KRS, and would like to use the space on the tongue for a tool box.

What have people found that fits well there, without significant modifications?

I would like something that is water-tight, and with an attached lid.

I have thought about trying to modify the Century Plastics battery box. It should fit nicely and be sturdy. Anyone try that?

Thanks!

I'm wondering the same. Our lithium batteries are in the front pass-through compartment, leaving some space on tongue. but our 2020 280KVS has an overhang over the battery area making it difficult to put anything very tall there.

I'm working on the same issue and this is what should arrive tomorrow:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The problem that I was having is anything with a hinged lid would not fully open due to the overhang on the cap over the battery area. I also bought this to house the DC to DC charger:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
which I hope to mount on the back of the toolbox between the toolbox and trailer. I will keep this thread posted and pictures if it all works according to plan.

I will have to measure the space before I get something. It doesn’t have to open completely, although it would be better if it did, as long as I can get a few tools and spare parts in and out of it.

Check the Harbor Freight Tongue boxes.... yes its harbor freight... but the tongue boxes are a great size and cost efficient.

Given the recess it would seem that something like a Century Plastics box (mentioned by the OP) with a lift off, rather than tilt, lid, would be the answer. If they make one in the appropriate size, of course.

After seeing the battery tray (yes, I bought the trailer sight unseen) I am not too optimistic about using the space. On the positive side, I am glad I am not using it for batteries! It would be really hard to get batteries in and out for storage.

Don't take me for certain here---Harbor Freight has/had a metal box that was about the same size as the battery area on a 24RKS. It was black.
There might be an issue with vertical clearance for a box with a hinged lid. The front cap hangs out over the batteries.

Thanks, I will take a look there.

This is what I wound up with. It is a Ridgid, and has a seal under the lid. I bolted it through the bottom to the battery tray.

It may not be really convenient, as it is tucked back behind the propane tanks and the lid does not fully open. The nice light ORV put in the battery area won’t be much use, either.

I will probably use the box for things that I don’t often use, like the power cord and/or some spare parts and repair materials.

Man, for that kind of money I would think you might be able to find someone to weld up a custom box.

If you start with the appropriate sized tongue box, you might be able to add another set of hinges, a few inches from the back to allow you to open it.
