US 395

We’re contemplating traveling US 395 from Pendleton south to MT Vernon, OR pulling a 24RKS with a 2017 GMC Duramax 3500 4x4. Any thought about road conditions, construction, etc ?

395 is typical Eastern Oregon 2 lane, You will be going in and out of canyons , just keep an eye on your speed as switchbacks can happen..
You will have 5 passes to cross.. not bad, Just take your time- Kinda a nice drive.
Battle Mtn, Meadow Brook, Ritter, Long Creek, and Beech Creek

Narrow, two lane, twisty road, with a steep climb up over Battle Mountain. Beautiful country and one of my favorite motorcycle rides. But you definitely have the truck to handle it. Take your time and enjoy the scenery and you'll be glad you made the trip.

Thanks to the responses we received here, we took the route on US 395 south from Pendleton. The roads themselves are excellent and the scenery exceptional. We experienced rain and a little snow on a couple passes which just added to the beauty. We took our time and enjoyed the view. Thanks again for your recommendation.

You'll be fine, enjoy your trip, help the truckers get around you safely if you can.

As I remember 395 south from Pendelton is up hill till you get out of the Columbia basin. Flatis for a ways then down into the JohnDay basin. Doable, but kind of slow. 395 is a rewlly nice drive across Oregon.

One of my most favorite drives, its beautiful, plenty of fishing and the road is in good condition.

I hope you stopped in at Long Creek, the restaurant/grocery there serves really great food.
