1991 Rexhall Vision 22ft
Greetings All, Pre-coronavirus, I bought a pretty distressed yet beautiful Rexhall Vision 22ft thinking that with the numerous new and used RV’s I had owned over 50+ years including 2 GMCMH, 2 Roadtreks, VW’s vanagons and a Eurovan that I could handle anything.
Well, I now realize, those weren’t orphans like this one seems to be.
For instance, I am desperate now to figure out what is the actual length supposed to be for the oil stick.
I had to have the one that was stuck in the tube pulled from the oil pan. However, it appears that this one had been fabricated fusing at least 2 separate pieces together and neither Ford or Napa sell anything for this.
A mechanic suggested that Rexhall may have added an extension to the tube.
With that, is there possibly another 22ft Vision Motorhome owner out there!!!!

It would help to know what engine it has.

What I would do is see how much oil it calls with a oil change with filter. If the dipstick tube comes out of the firewall like most class A MH's you'll need an extended dipstick. Fill with recommended amount with then use a wire to see how far from the dipstick tube to the oil then make a dipstick. good luck with your project.

Thanks so much. No one here that I spoke to came anywhere near this terrific solution!
The only suggestion I got was to watch the oil pressure.
Bye for now.

I've got two Fords currently with "custom" dipsticks. My solution was to just have a dipstick that worked, fit and showed oil. Then change the oil with the proper amount. (Be sure to run the engine a minute to fil the oil filter.) Then just see where the oil was on the stick. Then I marked it there and about a half inch below it. For my "full" and "add" marks. To mark them I carefully drew a metal file across them. To make the marks a bit more visible I color them with paint marker but expect it to wear off eventually.

Great thinking, Gypsy...I just had an oil change so will try a coat hanger to get to the bottom of this and then have a dipstick length fashioned from that.

Be sure to put a loop in the wire so it won't fall into the engine, the dipstick for my V10 is about 4', so a coat hanger may not reach.

The dipsticks in full sized passenger vans from 1980's into the 2000's for the transmissions are extraordinarily long no matter what make. An Econoline would be my first pick though. I bet one would make a good donor after you figured out how much to trim off. I would just size it that way and not fool with a coathanger.

Thank you X2 for your suggestion.
I am wondering if you have any ideas regarding the engine oil stick ...I have the transmission fluid stick.

The engine doesn't know the difference between dipsticks. A transmission dipstick just needs a smaller tube seal grommet to be repurposed.
