'98 Aerbus skylight replacement

Hello everyone,

Has anyone replaced the bathroom skylight on their Aerbus? Ours is a '98 with 24" x 12" neo angle over the bathtub. I bought a tinted exterior skylight that is the right size (Specialty Recreation NLS2412S) thinking I would just be able to reuse the clear inner dome part of the skylight. It turns out that won't be possible. The inner dome and outer skylight both came out together and are stuck together with ancient double sided super-tape and they won't come apart without destroying both of them. The clear inner dome is not looking great anyway so I figured I would just order one and replace it too.

I couldn't find a clear one so I ordered a white one, Specialty Recreation NN2412 inner skylight/dome/garnish. With rain coming, I had to reinstall my old skylight and cover everything with a tarp while waiting for the inner dome to come in. It arrived today, and it's the right size except for there being an upward lip around the edge of the inner skylight flange. The inner and outer domes are the right dimensions to nest together but the flanges don't work together. The outer skylight flange is flat and slightly larger, and the inner skylight flange has a lip, and the flange is about an inch smaller.

Should I trim the lip off the inner skylight flange and try to use it, or just send it back and install the new outer skylight only? I've done a pretty thorough search online and I couldn't find a single alternative to the inner skylight I bought, other than something custom made.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!

I had the exact same skylight . It broke during a hailstorm three years ago I replaced it with the outer only and it’s been fine
